Dec. 1st, 2007 06:22 pmToday I vaguely planned to start writing something.
Instead I booked tickets and hotels for seeing a play next July, and watched a bunch of house rebuilding shows on More 4.
... well, it's relaxing, and I do need to recharge on a weekend.
One of the houses was gorgeous. Stone, custom ordered chimneys, wrought iron stairs and railings with twirly bits, interior all white-red-black, mostly white so it's light. And it had a huge great hole in the corner, a light well, on purpose. And they learned how to do most of the jobs themselves and built it all themselves and ended up quite muscley and impressive looking. And also the house had a bell on.
The other house... well, when it was showing the 'before' pictures there was in their main rooom a huuuuuuge magenta rectangle with two paintings of small fluffy dogs. Sadly the eventual house ended up pretty much like I'd expect from someone who would put that in pride of place. urgh.
The first one had only one structural crisis when they needed to take a few inches off a big steel beam. And when they were learning how to do the roof they messed it up quite a few times before they got it right.
The second one had a bunch of germans in to do the roof. They built a pond. That leaked. And then everyone argued a lot and the builders and the architects would only communicate in writing and the clients, lawyers, had to mediate.
Building projects make for fun television.
I think I'm going to go back to bed and read the last Doctor Who book. Well, the last one that's arrived so far. There's more on the way. That's the reliable thing about Doctor Who, it will take veryveryvery long to use up all the available canon. I end up not reading fanfic... except for Doctor/Master cause that clearly goes places the TV show isn't going to. Dark but fun places. The more-from sort of fanfic. The more-of fanfic, canon has covered.
