indeed. there's fic 'writers' that I've had to spam-can on the old mailing list days because their entire output involved motoring through these slightly expanded summaries and is just not helpful. especially due to the niggly feeling that writing a fic that actually expands on the point would be a Thing.
LJ seems to enourage this kind of... dressed bunny.
There are stories out there that are the Real Thing, but since dressed bunnies, and overdressed bunnies, tend to also advertise themselves as the Real Thing, it can be difficult to find what I'm really looking for.
yeah, LJ makes it so easy to just sit down, type, and forget. And I'm not even talking about drabbles; there's some great ask-and-answer type drabbles out there. It's more like... like people write about how they're going to go to London, and then sit back and bask in the glow of having been.
Ephemeral? Yes. It's so good to find the stuff that isn't.
Not that the daily ephemera doesn't have its place, and isn't interesting too. But sometimes it takes the place of substance and the substance is hard to find.
I'm more than willing to enjoy stories that exist somewhere in between, because a lot of them wouldn't get written otherwise if they had to be Real Stories . . . but yes, there are some fics where I wish the narrative voice would get down out of the heavens and provide us with some actual moments. Luckily I haven't read that sort of fic in a long time, and if I don't get a moment in the first paragraph or two I just hit the backbutton.
I often write and post things that are basically a sales pitch of a bunny. "Here's an idea, and a few lines to tell you how shiny it is. Now someone else do it".
Bunnies that advertise themselves as bunnies aren't a problem. And your fics get nice and specific, small moments. The fics that are bothering me today are ones more like "What if Jack met Superman! The End." Which gets a bit frustrating.
I have a drabble that is basically trying to say "what if the whole Glory/Ben thing is a transperson with a dissociative problem" - re that whole "I woke up in a red mini dress and have no idea what happened last night".
No one picked it up. Sigh. But thing is, those are labelled fics, basically.

Stories with meat on the bones.
