It is in a quick factual piece about Giles, compressing at least the first two seasons of canon to tell the life story of Giles in plot summary form. Everything else is pretty much out of book, the usual interpretation. And then there's this line about Ethan, where the important and pertinent fact about him is only that his is 'notoriously gay'.
Obviously this became canon when I wasn't looking. :eyeroll:
My list of Ethan fics not on archives progresses. That thing that says 'if you can't say something nice don't say anything'? I'm not always good at that thing. Doing my best, but, just not that diplomatic. But I'm trying to make a full list, so not saying anything would rather shortcircuit that. So, intermittently cranky listings. I keep going back and editing it, it might end up presentable eventually, you never know.

I can spare you having to read Ladycat and my Who's Afraid of Red, White, Green - if it were to ever crop up in your search. Ethan is a villian in the piece, but he does fun things instead of what he's been hired to do. He is cowardly and snarky at the same time, and he escapes by a narrow margin. Gen-fic.
Sixty Minutes may also crop up in your search (a S/X story I wrote), well, in that one Ethan was hired to create a spell for Xander, a means of punishment, and Ethan conveniently 'forgot' what you might call the off-switch. More plot-device-y than anything. Definitely not an Ethan fic.
