I've just started watching my Blakes 7 DVD set.
I'd forgotten how creepy and Matrix-y the beginning was. Or at least was trying to be- it is difficult to take seriously when it looks so cheap and of its time. Odd how the future always looks kinda like the now that was envisioning it...
Of course given how ubercool Matrix was trying to be I'm pretty sure it will be laughable too, in twenty years. Even though black always ages better. But still, the fun part is how dead cheap it all looks.
Also, how come the people look different? I'm pretty sure humanity cant have changed that much in one generation. Its like there are fashions in people. So everyone looks kind of strange.
But back to the creep, and the mindwipe, and the reality twisting.
I've been thinking lately, and my thought is that a lot of TV seems to me to be building on what Blakes 7 did way back then. I mean think about it- ship full of convicts, ship with a personality even, on the run from an ultra repressive regime- that description applies just as well to Farscape as B7. So I wonder if Farscape would have ever happened if B7 hadn't?
So far I haven't finished watching one episode and I'm already annoyed at the subtitles. So few DVD sets really *care* about subtitles. They exist on this set, so yaay, but they skip enough words that listening with the sound off does not always make sense. I know what they are actually saying (because I have a good memory. Not just because I've seen it many many many.) but is still not of the good. But not totally bad.
Okay, post this, go back to the giggling. Because really, I like the show, but not because of any scary creepy ideas. Its just rather fun.
