beccaelizabethI watched Timelash. I have a stack of Doctor Who that I've never to my memory watched, and it was on top.
... when people hear 'Doctor Who' and point and mock and laugh, this is what they're thinking of, isn't it?
I mean I'd heard - it's a clue when even the paper in the DVD can only say 'it's not all bad' - but I just had to go and see.
I think my favourite bit is the Sparkly Tinsel of Doom. It's just random enough.
The plot, though... too random isn't the half of it. Plus a huge build up to a grand sacrifice and... 'explain later'??? They'd already set up some tech magic could have handled it, why just not bother?
Peri... is interested in plants, screams a lot and calls for help, and is so pretty all the aliens fancy her. Doing feminist critique on this is basically going to boil down to *facepalm* so I won't bother.
Also, the 'you so ugly' attack as a way of saving the world is really deeply messed up.
6 is just an insufferable bully. He's mean to Peri. This is why I didn't like him when I was small. He's just mean and scary and Not The Doctor. The Doctor is nice to his friends.
But now I've seen more of the early episodes I can see specific mannerisms and expressions that are straight from 1 and 2, so he's being The Doctor, he's just put together in a way that's no fun to be around.
In audios I've heard he is still brusque and 6ish but not in such a messed up way. Is better.
Timelash verdict: I'm really glad they made this. Because I can know, with absolute certainty, when I write for Doctor Who it will not be the worst episode.
