Didn't like it. Had trouble settling to listen. While it was on I have rearranged my bookshelves again and sorted out a couple dozen books for sale (incidentally, does nobody wants my books? I shall have to sell them to strangers!). Also had food and rearrange furniture and sorted out my jewelry and doodled and stuff. So, you know, clearly completely engrossed.
Partly it's the reader. Didn't like. Has a way of settling in to a particular singsong when not doing the voices. Didn't like how she did Doctor voice.
Mostly it's the story. Had lots of good ingredients. But why was it gendered like that? Evil vampires yaay, but evil vampire womens? Not so yaays. Especially with the burning. Also the bit where the moral of the story appears to be 'hide in your house when the bad things happen' isn't a good bit. Or the possible 'listen to the Doctor and do what he says even when he tells you he won't explain because you wouldn't understand'. I don't like this guy. This Doctor, he's... it's like the balance is off, like when you listen to dance music but it's set to Speech and all the bass has gone. The part where the Doctor finds allies and makes people better seems to be missing. The bit where he shares some knowledge and people use it to save themselves isn't present. He just tells them to hide and he'll take care of it. Blah. Plus it has an apparent multiplicity of characters yet uniformity of reaction. Stupid happens, but smart should too, sometimes.
I realise I'm cranky, picky, and easily bored. But, well, there are stories I like- I love Pest Control and like the one with the space apartment block... Forever Trap? This story I do not like.
Next must decide between more audio, a DVD, or actually getting things done.
... getting things done is not looking like a winner right now...
