Futility, anarchy, and death... so I escape from Modernism study by watching Blakes 7? Hah.
I love it when they screw up and everything goes horribly wrong. Mostly because they do so in logical twisty ways that have emotional continuity. The whole thing with Control and Blake believing his own press was excellent.
... okay, I also like the Big Stagey Acting!!! Because it's like Large Print for the body language impaired. But there's subtle in there too.
I'm watching the one with Travis on trial now. Shouty!Travis doesn't bring a whole hell of a lot of subtle to it. I'd love to give the big speech to a bunch of actors to see what they do with it.
Servalan :-)
I think she looks better in the military looking outfits than the ones with a fabric shortage.
The Federation has a subtlety shortage too. All the stuff we see is about massacres and executions and rigged trials. But there's hints there are still people who believe the whole thing is on the level. How? What does the Federation look like from their point of view? Are they just drugged stupid? And the deaths kind of draw attention from the drugging and all the bits more subtle than massacre. I mean, if the drugging is evil in and of itself then they could be fighting that, but no, it always has this added killing people thing so there's never any doubt.
I keep trying to invent an interstellar government that works. Is a bit tricky, but much fun. Would you want a lot of Earth type diversity out there? Would a mess of planets that might go to war amongst themselves but had a whole lot of self determination really be better than a centralised system that stomps on the corners? Is there a good compromise? Big politics questions.
... I should probably study politics. If I want to make stuff up about it.
Right. have to stand up to change discs. Must put laptop down.
