I don't know how long I slept Friday, but between that and lying down in the dark it was pretty much Friday. So. Not eventful.

But I feel pretty good about the world right now, so that's nice.

... maybe if I just dont check the news until monday...

Today I resolved to Start Using Scrivener
so I finished reading the interactive tutorial (looooong)
and made a new project with my notes for the latest fantasy world
which was scary because what if Import changes all them files?
but it says it does not and it appears it did not
so that's okay.

It doesn't have the stuff that is currently on dreamwidth, I'll find it and pour it in later.

It does have several versions of a handful of scenes, because my writing method before now goes 'open file, save with new name, write more in file'. Every day. So a lot of versions accumulate. And this is bothering me about Scrivener, because will the snapshot thing so the same thing the same well? And does it really autosave reeeeally? And how about backups? I have not yet set up the backups. They're supposed to be automagic when it closes too. Which sounds good.

I realise all this isn't making new words, but I shall feel like a grown up in charge of new and fancy tools when I start trying to make new words.

Which will happen aaaaaany day now.

I keep getting distracted by thinking of a new corner of the world I could start with. Like today and yesterday I was thinking about how Ianto and Jack would fit, and how one would translate Daleks, and the thing where both Daleks and Time Lords are going to look like demons in the local way of understanding. Which is all interesting, but not the story I thought I wanted to do. Just a potential backstory for some characters who cross paths with my protagonist in a bunch of years after the start.

Also I get distracted trying to find clothes for everyone. Guy clothes just don't have enough fancy these days. Beads and embroidery and patterns and fancy fabrics are almost all girl clothes here now. It is very boring of fashion. But it's also annoying how girl clothes aren't easy to cover all the bits at once, like long sleeves are rare but long sleeves with long skirt only happens if backless or practically frontless or something. Blah. And none of these clothes you can buy modern would much impress people who prefer lasting and well preserved things, or clothes built to function, in temperatures other than room.

... all I need for the story is to decide Jack's impressing people dress looks like rose petals and Ianto's waistcoat or tunic has enough beads on it to resemble armour, but somehow I spend ages looking at pictures anyway...

Jack having so much life he's giving it away puts him in a different role than soldier, in this fantasy world. But he'd be annoyed about that, because Captain is what he chose. So, story.

It's weird trying to populate an original universe, because lightly altered fic characters are always so lively, it's more fun to hang out with them than start fresh. But then the world is so different they end up different anyway. So then it's not even a good fic au, it's just a sort of betweeny thing.

Eh, irrelevant util I at least a first draft.
