How does this not change the ST universe? Everything should be fixable from then on.

But it's not really followed up, IIRC, in STNG. Voyager and/or DS9 might have, but it's been years since I was a fan so my memory isn't what it once was.

I've not watched Voyager but DS9 does nothing noticeable with it. I think the writers either realised it was a 'verse breaker or didn't realise how powerful the tool was, and either way quietly forgot about it.

Back in the day, I found Phil Farrand's Nitpicker's Guide for Next Generation Trekkers quite amusing. Every episode has notes for things like, "Changed Premises." Variations in how the transporter worked came up a bit.
