Watching Krull
the bad things are called Slayers
and are actually icky wormy things in big armour
Is all about the true love
so the guy who had a lot of wives all over the place gets killed pretty quick, but not as quick as the guy who was all 'big waste of time' about the quest.
Polygamy = death! Bit harsh really.
it just got to a bit where he's all "from here I must go on alone"
and I'm like, hello, you know this how? Kingly intuition? For all you know you're breaking in to the boiler room!
On the up side, there just aren't enough men in tights these days, and those are some nicely filled out stripy tights.
But the prettiest thing in the whole movie is that five bladed weapon. Impractical as anything, but *really* pretty. I keep thinking I could get a tattoo of it (you know, if I hadn't chickened out on the whole tattoos concept) but then the film is sort of medium, so... *shrugs*
I do like it that it isn't his silly extending blade that wins in the end, it is her fire. I like it less that she has to stand around and wait for the bloke to turn up. That part is annoying. I mean I know its this big metaphor true love conquers all bit, but really, could she be more useless? Oh look I have this flamey hand thingy that I forgot I could use until there was a man around to tell me. And then instead of them using it together he gets it from her and does the hero bit alone. I mean really, would it be too difficult for it to work best with their hands still joined? This way she gives up her power to him and oh look now he kicks ass. Well, yeah, but she still just stands around looking shiny.
This is why I always loved Princess Leia. I mean, okay, she got rescued a lot, but she did a lot of rescuing too. Teamwork.
Now I'm comparing to the kind of fire and hands joined thing that Spike and Buffy had. And wondering if Joss watches the same movies I do.
The dramatic escape bit goes on waaaaay too long.
And theres one character who survives the whole movie with his only contribution having been volunteering first and being in distress a lot. That's just annoying. I mean yaay for the showing willing, but generally speaking heroism takes a bit more work.
The closing voiceover makes it clear that the main job of the girl in this film is to choose a king. That's just annoying.
Buffy's version is way better. Chosen. Everyone.
You know there really need to be more fantasy films. That way I wouldn't end up watching the mediocre ones quite so often. I kind of like Krull, but then again I only kind of like it. Pretty, but empty.
