In GURPS High Tech they reckon the belt loop as a thing for holding your trousers up wasn't invented until TL6, or about 1920.
How? It's not like it involved advanced materials that had to be invented first. It's a bit of cloth you stick a belt through. This required inventing? *blinks*
Before that apparently belts went over things, and were for holding pouches or some such.

That's just so random.
Now I'm thinking of whole alternate tech paths where we remain beltless.
