I just interrupted my short story homework to write a short story.
It's either 1156, 1179 or 1211 words long, depending which word counter I believe.
Which is awkward. The word limit is 1000 plus or minus 10% for the assignment. If three different programs give me three different numbers how am I supposed to stay in the limit? Actually it's two different version numbers of the same program, even. Unhelpful.

I can't post it here yet because (a) draft and (b) might be good for an assignment.
Which is frustrating, because I keep writing things and then nobody can see them.
The internet means I'm not used to that at all.

I used google translate to tell me what things were in Welsh. like 'eggs' and 'dragon eggs' and 'the red dragon' and 'stones' and also mum and dad and grandfather. If google is wrong I'd never know it.
I should probably not try and write in Welsh. Which I know.

Also I should probably not try and write about Wales. On account of never having been there.

Also also because whenever I start trying to think of things about Wales I think of sheeps and singing and coal.
I'm reasonably certain there's really quite a lot of Wales that has nothing to do with sheeps or singing or coal.
I have now written about sheep and singing and hope I've got it out of my system.

Obviously when I think of things about Cardiff it's pterodactyls/dragons and shagging and underground bases, but somehow that doesn't extend to all the rest of Wales, however much of it has been alien planets by now.

My brain is daft.

If I write what I actually know I write about being a student in Norwich. Which is really really boring, which is why I am reading and writing and watching about anything else that isn't being a student in Norwich. I could write with a fair degree of detailed knowledge, but, I would bore the hell out of myself.

Also, I don't really have the knowing of Norwich or students. I just go to lessons. I'm not very social. I don't know much about other students. They talk a bunch but I'm trying to concentrate on lessons. So I can write quite a lot about, say, chairs and tables and the way there is never any lunch, but writing convincing characters... *sigh*

I know a lot about TV characters though. I have spent very many plenty hours concentrating on them. I can copy them pretty good, probably.

They'll be a copy of a copy and possibly a copy of a copy of a copy though, because what they're trying to copy might be real people and is quite likely to be people they've studied on the TV too.

Sometimes I wonder what I'm doing trying to write about humans when all the advice says to go and listen to humans and hang around with them and try and copy reality. I don't spend much time with humans or in reality. And when I do I get the pervasive impression I'm still missing the point.

Made up people are much more logical.
