Apr. 23rd, 2012 12:07 pmBig Finish are having a special offer on their Doctor Who audio plays

£5 each or 10 for £45, different titles on different days.
I own them all, so I can't be getting discounts today.
But, I own them all, and there's very few I wouldn't happily recommend.
I listen to more audios than I watch episodes, lately.
From todays discount list, Fearmonger is a 7&Ace adventure.
In the next ten, Shadow of the Scourge is 7, Ace & Benny. I haven't heard much of Benny yet but there's a whole range of her own adventures if you like her.
Plus there's 3 8th Doctor adventures. I've got the versions in the box set but they're a bit different apparently. Still, 8 is my favourite Doctor, based on his audio appearances. If you've only seen the movie, give him a chance. (er, technically there's 4 of 8, but the Stones of Venice is the one that made me nearly give up on audios very early, so you maybe don't want that one. I don't know, I'm sure there's someone that loves it.)
and 20 is Loups Garoux is 5 and Turlough, and I rather love it.
25 is Colditz, a 7 & Ace adventure with far reaching repercussions, where they nearly screw up time.
29 starts another set of 8th Doctor adventures. The one I don't like this time is The Chimes of Midnight, but a great many people think it's excellent.
32 is Time of the Daleks. Daleks, and Shakespeare. Probably more mad than it sounds.
34 is Spare Parts, a Cyberman story set at their very beginnings.
If you only get the one out of the first 50, get this one.
5 and Nyssa, and before the audios I'd not have thought I'd be recommending Nyssa, but in audio she has a personality.
(Don't get The Rapture. On Librarything I rated it 1.5 stars. Audios get 1 star for being Doctor Who and 1 star for having Ace in them. The story took stars off. Ungood.)
40 is Jubilee, a Dalek story, and if you prefer Daleks to Cybermen this is the other one story you should get in the first 50. 6 & Evelyn, an audio original companion and a very good character. 6 in audios got considerable development. I almost never rewatch his TV episodes, but I relisten his audios plenty often.
(Don't get Master. I really hated that one. Philosophical differences, and characterisation disagreements, and greatly disliking what it suggested for their backgrounds, AND not liking the actual story. Blergh.)
And whatever you do, do not start with Zagreus.
There's a long complicated story arc on the way up to Zagreus - 8's stories have arc, more so than other Doctors - and it's confusing enough even if you know all the rest. It'll make less than no sense if you start there.
... okay, now I want to put all my audios in story order and listen to them from the beginning again.
... but I won't because I'm behind on the new releases, to the point I've let my subscription lapse until I catch up. I'll sub again from the same point, it's just having them turn up on the mat every month just to go in the stack isn't very efficient.
I still like them just as much, but my bus journey just about halved when the 8 bus started up, plus my college days halved when they put everything on the same day, and my listening habits will have to change to hear a whole adventure a week even.
And it's nearly the end of the semester anyway, so I'll not even be going in after that.
ANYway: Big Finish audios, so good I'll happily advertise them.
