Today I read the Introduction and first two chapters of "the warrior women of television", which was handy because it covers a lot of stuff other people have said about (women) action heroes, including a summary in two pages of the two books I spent all christmas reading. Lots of useful bits in there, even if I just collect names of other people to read.
Again though the main thing to notice is Doctor Who? Does not have Action Heroes. Not the same attitude to the body, to power, to self-in-environment, to violence, rationality, and the role of intellect. At all. Action Heroes get beat up a lot and beat people up, and that's their whole gig. The Doctor fixes things with his brain, and so does River, she just shoots things sometimes too.
Moments that are more like an Action Hero tend to be a sign things are going horribly wrong.

So I should stop reading these books and read something more relevant.
... but I've been following references from women in science fiction, which always talks about Alien and Terminator, and ends up in these women in action movies books, and then there's this warrior women on television book which already mentioned Aliens and Terminator and Xena and will have chapters on Buffy, and really I'm just left wondering, why are all these books about 80s and 90s women in movies and TV? Why aren't there already books about women in Doctor Who?
There's books that mention The Avengers and Wonder Woman, and not Doctor Who. Is it because only the Doctor is in the title? There's been a lot more of women than there has of the Doctor.

Am I looking in the wrong places?
Seriously, what should I be reading that's about women on Doctor Who, women in science fiction, on British television?
I need better books.

I should ask a librarian. I already asked library computers but I'm not that good at them.

Later I might read the rest of the warrior women book, except it's about Buffy and some other stuff and I've already got a shelf full of Buffy, I might skip to the conclusions, I don't know.

Or I could read one of the other books. But there's only 2 I haven't looked at at all yet, and one of those I read in 2008 for a different course, so I'm doing quite well in the at least having looked at them stakes.

I also need to photocopy like 2 pages in one of the other books. I could do that at the UEA if I pay, but I wanted to use CCN photocopiers for free, only they were both broken when I went to do it. I'll do it on Thursday.

On Thursday I have an appointment with my dissertation supervisor, and then I need to go to CCN to ask them about student grants and if there's secretly a rule that means the letter I got this week saying No We Will Not Pay This Year is in fact negotiable. Because bugger. I mean, I've been expecting that for all six years so far, but I thought I was just being paranoid. Why would they pay for six years and not for me to finish the thing? That's going to cost a large chunk of money if I have to pay it myself.

Also, my recliner chair is falling apart. I have only one chair, which I sit in for all the times, so it falling apart is a problem. It's only the fabric falling apart... well, also the bolts needing tightened with the key thingy... er, that's quite a lot of falling apart, really. I think next time I'll have to spend a lot more and get one with a multi year guarantee, if that's possible.

Next I get to decide between more reading about Doctor Who or more watching Doctor Who.
... this dissertation topic was a good choice. I mean, I'm not thrilled about the whole studying thing of late, but if I was studying anything else at all all day every day, I think I'd have taken the source text outside and burned it by now.
