Orphan Black

beccaelizabethHaving heard a bit about this, mostly positive, I recorded and today watched the first four episodes of Orphan Black.
I think if I'd only had one or two I would have stopped there, because the not-knowing is really uncomfortable. Also the messy violence and the more messy violence and the people hurting themselves. Plus the sex stuff is really messed up because if they don't know who you are they are not in fact consenting and eeew. And really the longer I type this paragraph the more I can come up with. There's a lot of messed up about this.
Buuuuuut
It has done a really awesome job of getting me to care about these characters.
Also, the subtitles put work into making sure I don't have to turn the thing up and try and distinguish between regions by ear. BBC subtitling: Doing it right.
But I now care about all the different subsets of this story and want to see things work out well for them and fear for how it seems far more likely to work out. Even/especially when I think they're being idiots.
Tatiana Maslany is being pretty awesome.
Also, Felix is fun to watch.
So I reckon I'll keep watching.
I can't currently decide if it'll give me thinky thoughts about identity or if it's trying too hard.
I am pretty sure it won't be one of the worlds I fic in or think myself into, because spaces already filled.
