I was asleep, and I woke up and realised it was time for Agents of SHIELD. Without using the alarm. So, clearly my subconscious thinks its important.

I think I need to watch this episode again because I kept watching through my fingers waiting for it to be embarrassing but then it wasn't so that's okay.

I'm back to liked not loved of the bits I saw, but I do still like, so that's okay too.

Also, <3 Phil.

The writers are a bit going out of their way to be all Our Heroes Are Different, yesno? Like, big uncaring organisation, small plucky team that breaks the rules and gets away with it. I'm not loving that setup. I mean, isn't it a big uncaring organisation basically made of small plucky teams? Like if you zoomed in anywhere you'd find people caring about each other enough to go get shot together. That's what being a SHIELD agent is about. So what was that garbage in the middle about no extraction plan? They had the resources, as evidenced by Coulson using them, so what's up with that?

The idea that Barton and Romanov never have an extraction plan is... dubious. I mean, going in knowing they're getting in more trouble than their bosses know how to get them out of, okay, but they'd have an escape plan even if it went to hell, so what do they even mean? No help? *puzzled*

Barton and Romanov mentioned in the context of Coulson's team = win.

Everyone being competent yet nervous also = win.

I did like the bit where Coulson was talking at May and she was staying blank face. It was funny. I also didn't like it, because at some point she needs to be a person, and being talked at is never helpful to that. In the world of fanfic and secret agent micro tells though they'd totally be having a really subtle conversation, so, *shrugs*.

I want to know a new thing about Phil soon. Like, we know there's a secret, and now we know he knows there's a secret that's secret from him, and he doesn't actually trust the system, and that 'Tahiti' thing he said again but this time stopped himself in the middle. So there's progress. But it's slow and I want to know a new thing soon.

That Hand lady... I felt like she was needling him? Like, not everyone goes to Tahiti, aren't you special, oh look at your kiddie pool team, isn't it nice to be back. I don't know, subtlety in delivery isn't my strong point, but the words are sort of... there's something going on under them? Like, it could be she's about proving she's the coolest even though he got special toys, or she could be knowing something he don't and unimpressed with him and his toys. Or it could be she's trying to be nice. I want to watch again and poke it a bit.

I liked the stuff with the team, now I know it won't be about anyone embarrassing anyone. Being talky and nervous is reasonable, but they were also competent. Also, FitzSimmons were cute about each other even while apart. Trying to do the sentence finishing thing. All his stories are hers too. ... cute or co-dependent, depending. So the mixing them in different combinations to reveal character worked plenty well.

I persist in not caring what Skye's secret background is? I mean, she could be the most super special shiny MarySue ever, that's still on the table, she could be anyone's kid and have Drama, but how it effects Skye doesn't interest me. So it'll only be interesting if it's either someone else on the team involved or someone the story makes us care about later. Or if I start caring about Skye. That could always happen. *shrugs*

I need to watch again to see how the extensive use of glass in doors and walls combines with the keeping of secrets. That seems unmixy. It's all very well having magic trap bracelets that don't let people pass but if they can see then that's less secret than it could be. Shiny though.

Why they call it the Hub? Torchwood has a better Hub.
Triskelion mentioned, though subtitles didn't know what to do with the word.

I liked the beginning bit where Coulson was in peril. As in, arrgh arrgh scary, oh yaay rescue. Also it's a swift reminder that if there's danger to be in Coulson will happily be there. He spends the rest of the episode as Suit In Charge, so it's important for making sure casual viewers know where he stands re: extracting agents from difficult situations and being personally endangered. I'm glad he didn't get hurt though, I prefer the sort of show where people keep all their parts.

I still want to know what happened to Coulson more than I want to know anything about any other character.

Agents of SHIELD continues to do what it said on the tin. I continue to plan to watch it next week.
