Kinda perfect
kinda... well, Angel has always been the dark one. PAIN. Grief. Bad.
but as a story? Perfect.
And ending in the middle of the fight, that is how this show should be.
Also- everyone dies. Not everyone dies *well*. Wes kicked ass right to the last. Personally I would have preferred it if he'd actually got the job done, but this way its saying theres always someone to pick up the torch even if you fall. Unexpected. And the life you save- Angel wanted Illyria dead, but if she had been, today would have had a very different ending. Wes did good, from the heart.

When I say everyone dies, I dont mean I think that was what this ending was meant to say. They've done mass death scenes before. This was about hope.

Whatever there is next- movies, series, or just fanfic- we still have *this*, eight years, 12 seasons of stories.

And we still have hope.

You're right, it was perfect that they ended in the middle of a fight, and it is all about hope. As long as we don't see the bodies, we have the right to think that they get out of it; the odds don't look any worse than in a dozen episodes past, and we don't know what kind of help is available to them, because they may not know.

I don't expect Aragorn with shiploads of dead warriors, but anything up to that looks possible to me.

if it was out back of Caritas I'd say portal to pylea, if the words on their own work. Because Illyria remembers everything Fred did, which would include those words. Of course Pylea isnt exactly SP free so it wouldnt be a long term solution, but straws is straws...

You're right be, we do have hope. And that's all we've got to cling on to, for now. That and fanfic. I hope this fandom is around for a long time to come. Thanks for giving the link to your LJ.

And it's not always about winning. The important thing is to keep fighting, whether or not you will win. And sometimes good things can be salvaged from last stands. The baby was saved. Anne is doing good work, thanx mainly to Buffy, but Angel and Gunn and Gunn's people have helped her. And Connor, Angel's true heart, lives and can decide to live a normal life or become a champion. Nina and her family were not caught in the fallout. Lorne lives for sure, and can tell Giles and Buffy and the rest of that gang that Angel and Spike have acquitted themselves with honor.

And we had a lot more in five seasons of ANGEL and seven seasons of BUFFY than most TV viewers get in 20 years.

The line that's been running through my head since I first read spoilers for 5.22 has been "He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day" and I am absolutely sure there is a way out of that alley.

Well, it's not as if there were 20,000 Uruk-Hai or Turok-Han in the alley; it might have even been less than 100 plus the dragon.

Too bad Gwen and Groo couldn't have shown up to even the odds.

the lost from page 10 I reposted already, albeit in virtually unreadable form. Pages 11 and 12 are also sitting here on my desktop, either in the text file or the two with all the html in them. One has too little code to look good, one way too much. Dont know how to repost any of them looking reasonable.
13 and the rumoured 14 I never saw the first time.
and now all the buttons are gone so I cant even keep fiddling with the format.

so, portals out the alley, illusion only for Wesley's downfall, neither one an easy out because portal to where and Vail still got Wes. These could reall work.

and a few board pages later I go on about how actually it couldnt. For a lot of good, big theme reasons Vail is dead.

But, I still have a niggly feeling that the stuff about illusion and magic making it difficult to see true figures into how Wes comes back.

All good ideas Becca! I agree that Vail is dead. I also agree that the stuff about illusion and magic would have played a part in bringing Wes back. I have no doubt in my mind that had we had a season six, Wes would have been brought back somehow. We'll have to hope for those TV movies or some sort of spin off, to see if any of those questions are to be answered or not. Until then, we've always got fanfic...
