I just watched 4 episodes of Avengers Assemble, a random four since I finally worked out which channel its on and how to set the box for it. It's visually a lot more MCU than EMH was, though Hawkeye is in purple instead of kind of red. And the team is the MCU team, plus Falcon, in the red and white costume. So that's Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, and Black Widow.

As guest characters we've seen Nick Fury, Impossible Man, the Wrecking Crew, Red Skull, Modok, some dude with a trident whose name begins with A, a bazillion Chitauri, a bunch of vampires, The Thing, Spider-man, and a shiny gold looking dude in a cloak who builds stuff.

In four episodes, the only woman with a speaking part is Black Widow.

And she's not even in all the episodes.

Pretty sure that's all the review it needs.

Dear TV: want to know how to double your audience almost instantly? Start pretending you want women and girls to watch too!

EMH wasn't perfect about women but at least it had them.

So now I'm super bored of Avengers Assemble cartoon.

Also I'm not happy with how they've got Falcon instead of how EMH had Black Panther. Because Falcon is the rookie who nobody knows yet who keeps mentioning he doesn't know stuff, instead of the other guy being a really smart dude with his own kingdom and his own agenda who ran rings around the rest of the team. It's like, lets have a reboot, but this time less uppity. It makes it harder to like Falcon for himself.

I did a bit like the first one I watched where the male Avengers all got Hulked and Hulk was left supervising them. Hulk is much more talky in this than the movies (the movies set that bar very low). The episode was about how he has great self control, because practice, but he learned how annoying he still is, because the other Avengers all having tantrums about pizza bagels. And then there was another one about how he secretly has hobbies and friends everywhere but the other Avengers don't know it. Poor woobie Hulk? Why does the TV just get rid of Banner entirely?? Seems unfair. Added together the whole portrayal seems weighted too far towards sympathy for the shouty rage monster who smashes. I mean, as a value set, not cool.

Mostly though I'm bored because there's no women anywhere so it's that weird smurfy universe where women would have to be a queen bee type. It's creepy.
