Sep. 6th, 2005 06:54 pmwent back to bed for a snooze
dreamed of a university where all sorts of cool people were teaching, like Giles teaching history
then the dream moved on and there was a whole displaced culture living on a reservation in exile and Giles was from their homeland and had come to be their king and lead them home. Not all of them, just the interesting and nice ones. Ones that would choose to follow him. All the mean ones who had twisted their traditions into little more than might makes right, they had to stay, in the mud.
Giles used brains and sword fighting both to win the top position and everyone respect. Warmth and ice both at once he had, like swords need to be tempered.
I'm vaguely trying to quote the guy in the dream. people bowed and had honor. and stories about the ones that didn't have honor.
like there was one famous master swordsman who ran a school. There was a kind of duel that could be invoked where whoever lost would lose their hands, but not their life. That was the only kind of fighting this master did, outside of classes. So he was considered to be kind and wise. Because he didn't go around killing people, but he didn't let those who challenged him keep a sword at his back.
But then something happened that was deeply dishonorable - someone tricked him with false hands. Not fake. False. That meant he had not fulfilled his obligation from that particular match, therefore there was a decree that no one should challenge or hinder him until he had found the man who cheated and done his duty. That man wasn't anywhere in their homeland so the swordsman went to the exile place to find him. Where they just challenged him to a duel and killed him. Which made Giles act all surprised and 'what about the decree? because of the false hands.' But I didn't dream the full story.
So once I woke up I figured out how that could happen.
it involves loose robes, and a very loyal wife.
ouch.
my dream also involved Giles and me getting married. Which apparently involved him licking me. All over.
Not a marriage ceremony I'd necessarily want in public, but *happy sigh*
so then we were partners and there was a whole save the world thing to do, because we were going to get all the honorable warriors and get them back to where they could do the most good.
so Giles in that dream had nothing to do with Slayers, but was still very Gilesy - studious, older, brains more than brawn but plenty of skill too, and a big destiny type duty, probably passed down from ancestors. I mean king isn't generally a job you just pick up on your own.
But if I was translating Giles while awake I'd make him servant of a Queen, like Elizabeth or something, rather than King his own self. Or possibly servant of the idea of a line of Queens chosen by prophecy. Powerful women who he would find then serve.
either way dream me gets to be Queen. cool.
