beccaelizabethI listened to the 8th Doctor box set Dark Eyes today. I've listened it before but I only vaguely recalled how it went. A lot of that is because it was more pissing about with time and getting causality in a knot, and when I only vaguely follow it I don't get the feels about it. But it was fine, it kind of made sense, that was okay.
But the Doctor... he has just been through so much shit when this one starts. He keeps on getting flashbacks, and while they turn out to be complicated sci fi, they're pretty fair ptsd after everything he's just lived through. He was willing to go to the end of time for just a little hope, and he finds it trying to save this one woman.
And the whole way it tangles up with two world wars and the time war, and the bit in the middle trying to sell him the illusion of contentment in the form of Daleks making peace... All that is pure feels. 8 needs a hug so bad one hug would barely make a dent. He is just Done. And this adventure gets him back to something like functional again.
... kind of seems fairer if he could just have an actual holiday where no Daleks invade anything, but, given the givens, that's a tiny bit unlikely. ... and if 8 needs a hug I don't even know what his later selves need. But since he has to get there through adventures, this is a pretty good way.
Tomorrow I have like 7 more box sets of 8 I could listen to. And it has been a while since I listened him, since I was saving him for last after I actually catch up on the main range. But since I'm not sure catching up is mathematically possible at the rate I've been managing, I decided to visit with 8 anyway.
... he needs a hug really a lot and he doesn't get that kind of story.
