Today has not been very interesting so far
which is good.

I woke up late and decided to have a bath anyway because if the cleaner arrives while I'm in the bath they'll knock and wait and it won't be the end of the world anyway.
... then I nearly splooshed the bath out from jumping when the post arrived, clack thud.

Got my half of the tasks done, ran the dishwasher, am currently doing the laundry, it is on drying now and I hope it actually works this time.

I remembered to tell the cleaner about Exciting Hallway Upgrades that are scheduled to happen on a cleaner day, and they said they'll just turn up and see if they can get in, we'll make it work. So that's okay.

I got a subscription renewal letter from Analog. I have only had 8 out of 12 issues and the renewal time is xmas ish. So that seems a bit early. Also I'd have to make a paper letter go to america? That seems Far and would require fancier stamps than I own. Also I would have to do maths because despite sending the letter to another country it lists US prices and how to do the math for international deliveries. Which, you know, not entirely helpful.
... how is a sci fi magazine so old school?
... because it's the sci fi magazine my dad subscribed to and the letters page suggests he would still be the typical subscriber if he was still alive.

How is 40 young to be a SF reader?

Must be all the youngers are reading online.

... I have an unread pile of 5 issues of 3 magazines covering... in one case six months, but that's because an issue didn't arrive. I don't know if I should renew when I dont like it that much. But I like that they exist? Probably? And it's something to do.

But I mostly read on Ao3 anyway.

Magazine subscription renewal letters keep getting earlier and earlier. I've gotten one before when I'd only received 2 issues of a 12-issue subscription.

The impression I've gotten of the digests in recent years and that the bulk of their audience is made up of writers who are trying to get published there. I'm sure actual statistics would show I'm wrong, but that's how it feels sometimes.

I've been reading Uncanny this year and really enjoy it. Have you given them a try?

I have the opposite problem - I read my ebooks because I always have my Kindle with me, but forget to read physical books because they just become part of the furniture. Literally furniture - right now at my desk I've got 2 stacks of books about 18 inches high. One if trade paperback sized book and I sit my bullet journal on top of it, the other is mass market paperbacks and I set my Kindle on top of it.

You can buy postage online for the exact amount, so no stamps required. But you do have to get it posted within 24 hours of printing the postage label.
