I am not a fan of the genre convention where heroes, on first meeting, fight. I never see two heroes and get struck by a burning need to know which would win in a fight. That is not what I am here for.

Seems to me there's always enough fights to go around.

So substantial of the plot? Leaves me urgh.

But it is satisfying when it all comes together.

The plot also keeps a focus on the team without needing to spend much time on extra villains. And Loki is a pretty interesting villain, given how he wanders across that border in other times and media. So we get to see aspects of their character brought out. ... among the worst aspects, but, it's character based.

"Love is for children" sounds different after Ultron. Like she was testing which weak spots Loki knew.

Barton is badass. Nearly took down the helicarrier, did get mission accomplished on the whole prisoner retrieval bit. And right at the start, saying doors open from both sides, and you can just see him wondering why the obvious needs pointing out. And he pushes Fury out the way, and just, the way he moves? And the way he fights once he's suited up, the whole way he keeps the motion of the 3D fight in mind and just puts arrows in it where they need to be, that is so much fun. I remember why I <3 him.

Coulson too. He goes from so epically awkward even I can notice to just that badass in his final moments. Couldn't move the gun so he moved the target.

... I was more upset before Agents of SHIELD happened.
... I also cared more before Agents of SHIELD happened. SHIELD and I have little overlap in our politics, from what I've seen.
They have entirely too much scary boom stuff to play with.

Tony and Steve had a journey. ... actually everyone had a journey, it's pretty efficient like that, from antagonism to mutual respect, with a bonus understanding themselves better and some shiny new friends making more things possible.

Watching phase one all in a row though you wonder what on earth they put in Steve's briefing that he has that opinion. Like, yeah, Tony has his showboat side and days when he's... kind of a problem, but, he's always, always the guy who'll put himself in harm's way. He didn't build a castle, he built a suit. He made himself the shield. It's difficult to see how anyone doesn't notice that, even though I know we have such a filtered view with privileged pov access.

And none of the important bits of Steve came out of a bottle.

It's great watching the body language in that argument though, belligerent Tony trying to put people down gets more of Obi's habitual gesture, the pushing down stuff.

I am least interested in Banner and the Hulk, because anger. I don't even have the Hulk movie. Or the other one that isn't MCU. Just... his issue seems so annoying because it's always other people reacting to him that kicks off, and then they think it's him. And like, they shoot Hulk with the plane and then "Target angry!" No shit. Like, be grown ups, try and communicate. Just because he's non verbal so far doesn't mean it's time to shoot him. But then he do smash a lot. I can see the problem, it's just depressing.

Natasha is plenty interesting but for someone that can flip fear on and off on demand she sure do spend a lot of time in this one with it on. I mean that and the bare feets is a Thing. Not awesome.

Natasha is pretty awesome though, she do save the world, and kick everyone else, and win in fight against guy who just won vs helicarrier, so, clearly is most win.

Once again there is so much good fanfic fodder because we can see their feelings and they connect in many and varied ways, and in fanfic we've got room to go explore that for hundreds of thousands of words.

Is difficult watching Tony fall off a building and fly through a portal and get smushed in the engine and all EVERY thing. But it was pretty much physical damage and we know he's pretty much okay so it was easier to watch than all the times he gets his heart ripped out. Even though being around Steve at all is in Big Feelings territory, makes him mention his dad. And the near death is kind of stressful, as we will observe. And... I guess there was more snappy one liners and whoosh boom and less emotional suffering to go along with the crunch, so it was easier to watch. But still.

No more crunching. Tower movie nights forever.

Also, everyone now moves into the tower in their customised floors. That was a good dream we all made up. Should do that.

Pretty good movie.
