it is weirdly disconcerting when fiction does a job in a different order than seems logical.
like, renovating a house together, cool
doing your own pipes and electric wiring, tricky but who knows what they studied
puttung in said pipes and wires after the story made a big deal of what paint color they used and how to detail the skirting boards, seems like an oops.

this imaginary house is in a very much less finished state than I had envisaged.

also why did they even have contractors in if they're doing the tricky bits themselves?

LOL at the sequence. Author needs a logic beta.
Contractor is probably there to fix the foundations or leaky roof after they put up curtains. ;)
