if a story is all about Will He Choose Duty Or Love
you kind of have to show what his duty is
because royalty doesn't mean a particular thing any more, even without it being au with werewolves,
and also I am not a monarchist
so the whole thing to me stops working because he should just
cancel the monarchy
give everything to charity
and go get a job.

like, if all he's doing is royal PR then he can just... not do that, and it don't actually matter, so it is a stupid dilemma in the first place.
