Does Wesley's Father have any fans?
Or fic?
I was just thinking, practically every character who shows up on BtVS or Ats has fans and fic and stuff. But Wesley's Father is a character I wanted to hit since before we ever met him. So, I'm not seeing the fan potential. Plus the whole thing where technically it wasn't him we saw.
Yet there are stories to be made of a man who truly believes that how he acts is the correct and indeed only way to be, a Watcher who was probably raised the same way he raised Wes. A guy Wes could have grown up to be?
So now that little bit of story in RFJ 0 which was about him is threatening to turn into a whole worldview from his pov.
And this was sparked from seeing an icon of him and Wes, only with Wes out of focus so it was really just him.
Pictures make thoughts.
and also, its 0330 in the morning, which makes its own kinds of thoughts. Like, 'I should really go to bed'.

Date: 2005-12-04 09:39 am (UTC)This is pretty much how I started off viewing Richard's father in my original fiction. Someone who tries to stick with tradition, even though the world has changed too much for a lot of it to still be practical. Also someone who has seen too many others in his line of work die to want to invest too much in his son, only to lose him. Although in Richard's case the illness and death of his mother caused a lot of the problems with his father. What do we know about Wesley's mother?
For that matter how much do we really know about Giles' parents and grandmother beyond them being a watcher family too?

Date: 2005-12-04 07:25 pm (UTC)There's such an absence of Giles family, or any mention of them, that I rather figure they have been out of his life for a long time. Maybe dead, maybe Not Talking. He never seems to call them. And it seems to me he never acts like he has backup, like he'd have someone to call for advice, especially after he got fired. Plus we never heard a word about family reacting to that. So I figure they aren't around to react.
Wesley's mother - alive, answers the phone, usually briefly and to hand Wes over to his father. He calls her mum, and him father. RWP refers to her as 'his mother' or 'your mother' and when Wes asks dad-bot if she's okay he replies "She's fine. Sturdy as ever."
Other than that, not so very much.
(some transcripts say 'mom' instead of mum. this irritates.)
