Pathfinder hazards
Jul. 4th, 2020 02:41 pmStarted reading the next chapter of Curse of the Crimson Throne and quickly hit something that sent me off to research:
a bad guy can just plane shift you straight to hell
and does if you fail your saves.
I mean, I knew the scope of Pathfinder adventures could get Big, but I feel that Hell is, you know, A Bit Much? Kind of out of bounds? Yikes?
So I looked up on google variations of Pathfinder Am In Hell What Do
and one of the messageboard answers I found was
'Apologise to your GM for hitting on their Significant Other'.
... helpful in its way, but not quite what I was looking for.
If you can Plane Shift yourself then there's a way back, but you need a particular material component, and to have learned the spell. Am now wondering if the adventure gave you a scroll I forgot about.
I fiund a couple of multi page arguments about the exact wording and effect of Banishment and Dismissal, so ymmv, but as far as I can see
Banishment only works on the caster's home plane, so you could get a native to Banish you, but couldnt banish yourself.
Dismissal just works, if target fails their saves, but has a 20% chance of sending them Anywhere instead of Home.
Dismissal came up earlier in the adventure for sure, someone might have decided learning Dismissal was fun.
But they'd need to be a spellcaster. Or have a very specific magic item.
Or wait while their party has a sub adventure to get them out of Hell again.
It is the final chapter and the characters are almost as powerful as they're going to get. 15th level for sure.
And the other two bad things they face are to get turned into a pig or to just up and die.
Still. Sending a character to Hell. Seems a bit much.
Now I'm wondering if there's something else in the rules that would make it less problem than it seems.
