Dinner with ...?
Dec. 10th, 2020 11:54 pmSomeone posted on tumblr asking which character from SFF we would have dinner with and why
and obviously replying on tumblr just isn't my speed
but now I'm thinking about it.
My first thought is one of the omnipotent or nigh omnipotent ones, a wish granting sort of a person, someone to make a difference. Because *waves vaguely at everything*.
Maybe Julian Bashir, if he wouldn't need his whole tech level just to help out.
Or maybe someone who knows how to build a Stargate network. Which, yes, is a big one to convey over dinner, but it never specifies how many courses.
... if you combine time travel with gate building you can both start now and have the whole network ready now. And any method of time travel is also necessarily space travel, because planets move. So even those little door openers the time bureau have on Legends of Tomorrow should be able to go Places, if programmed correctly...
... why yes I have thought about this often...
So my first thought are like the problem solvers, the ones who would bring something a lot larger than dinner.
My second thought would be any of the set of characters who would have to come back to life to attend a dinner. As long as we could figure out a way to keep them that way, and most of them would have Thoughts.
My third thought is Captain Jack Harkness.
... because dinner would probably be enough.
Now I'm thinking more Pathfinder. Like, none of them could teach me how to be a wizard over dinner, but I could make a pitch to be an apprentice and you never know...
... or, dinner with Cayden Cailean.
Any of the gods would have obvious advantages, but Cayden would probably think it was fun. Though I'd have to buy him a drink.
I do not live up to Caydenite ideals though. Too sober, and not at all an adventurer thus far.
Shelyn is big into the arts, but I'd want to give her my cultural studies books, because beauty is not the only thing that is good for.
Sarenrae is great in many ways, redmption and all, but I would be frowny about the idea anyone needs killing, and Pathfinder is pretty pro killing in general.
... probably having dinner with an actual deity is Ambitious, but, little bit of clerical magic could go a long way.
Basically when I think of having dinner with a character I am not solely thinking of the pleasure of their company. They have so much that could make such a difference. I'd want to borrow someone long enough to change the world with them.
Or invite someone from the Young Wizards world with a working Manual, who could leave a copy for me.
... I might not make a very good wizard but I can dream...
Anybody I did just want to spend time with, a dinner wouldn't be hardly enough.
Maybe if I can think of people I can help. Who in SFF would need help that could be offered over dinner...?
