I reread The Colour of Magic.
It's really doing something different than later Discworld, and does not look great next to the later books, but it's weird picking up on things Rincewind says here that turn out to be Themes throughout, but I dont reread the first book much so I had actually forgot.
Like wanting a better kind of magic by harnessing lightning. Like thinking it could all be better organised somehow. Like there's a lot of whizz bang magic - waaaaaay more than in the books I been rereading - but it's not actually helpful or world defining the way the clacks and steam are going to be.
I remember it as like a first sketch that's still looking at older masters, but it actually set out its stall pretty clearly.
Is a good beginning.
