Aug. 22nd, 2022 02:15 amToday I discovered it is illegal to destroy UK coins
https://www.royalmint.com/help/coinage-faqs/destroying-coinage/
so if one happened to get paid in sovereigns for one's magic items
one could not melt them down to make another shiny with
one would have to use them to buy the gold etc
and melt that.
But the royal mint also sells gold bars and platinum bars in a variety of weights, so that's cool.
But converting between DnD/Pathfinder standard imperial pounds
and this world we only use it for gold troy ounces and troy pounds
is a fiddly pita.
And some gold is sold in kg and g anyway
but the stuff I found was 22ct
so again, fiddly math to make it into the DnD standard of coins are the same weight as pure gold.
not that this is relevant in the real world in any way shape or form
but I tried figuring out how many gp per day a magic item salesman could make if they had a whole world for a deliverable market and could just churn out their maximum and sell it
and then turn it back into pounds or dollars
and
it is
So Much.
So so much.
And the gp cost of buildings in Pathfinder in no way matches up with real world property prices
even in London
because gold.
... I should find something to do...
