beccaelizabethI was just reading a fic set in the far future
and I got thrown out of the story
because the guy getting kidnapped couldn't trigger an emergency signal on his wristcom without looking and pressing multiple buttons at once and making noises.
I can on mine. I mean I don't know what happens once you actually slide the emergency whatsit, but I can make it mute and make the emergency slider come up and know where to slide it. It's simples, because it's for when you fall over and hurt.
And I'm just a regular people with off the shelf technology, not someone political who gets kidnapped in canon already.
I guess it's the opposite of when a newer fic doesn't know how pre digital cameras work, or that a phone could only do voices.
New tech can't imagine how simples old tech was, and 2007 can't imagine how simples consumer tech can get.
