I dreamt there was a Torchwood LARP starting from the back of a pub.

You paid different per ticket if you were alone or with a group, and for £36 it advertised bonus NPCs, so, dream me paid the maximum, because why not?
Didn't have a group. Had one blonde lady who the person taking the money for tickets talked to like she was working, but when she said she was not on tonight, he saw me paying a lot and winked at her. Also a guy who was putting his combat boots on just before the starting line and joined us when she nodded him over, looking all army surplus.
The lady I knew from board game nights, she always stayed til last to tidy away. The guy was new, and spoke with an American accent, mostly.

So we went in and I asked if this LARP has stats different than you personally have, because I wanted to be the Face and I personally am not good at either Diplomacy or Sense Motive.
Lady said that was fine. Didnt say what she was playing. The guy was obviously someone fighty, but he just said a Graham would be joining us later as our coder.
None of us had character sheets or like rules or anything, not even after this heavy hint.
As a LARP it was somewhat lacking.

But we kept on walking into like a warehouse pretending to be some dark alleys, and the army surplus guy had some briefing notes type lines to say, so, alright.

Then we saw the weevil crouching over the dead guy, so I'm wondering, more of a haunted house thing?
But either they've gone really extra on the FX or that is, indeed, an dead guy.
(I have been watching a TV show where people having their throats cut out is a recurring plot point, and my dreams are unfortunately picking up detail.)

So the blonde lady screams and the army surplus guy swears, a lot, and I say he sounds more like Owen now, and we could really do with Owen. King of the Weevils. But since he's not here...
I made myself small and walked towards the weevil. Body language of nope not a problem here. I made hush noises and the lady behind me put her hands over her mouth. And I talked calm to the weevil. All "Okay, we're okay. I haven't got any weevil spray. But you shouldn't be here. Let's get you back to St Mary's."

And the weevil turned around and went off towards a fire exit, which was propped open. We followed, the guy keeping up a fairly steady but whispered stream of swears, and we were only a few streets over from the Weevil church.

I knocked, instead of going right in. Surprising a church full of weevils seemed unwise.
The weevil with me jumped back from the noise, but when I stepped away and went small again, the weevil went in.

I stepped inside too, just to look. I was like "Ah, I see no one brought any boiler suits lately. I can fix that. Don't know where they got the Torchwood ones, but the regular sort I can order. Be seeing you, then?"

And I'm talking to a church full of mostly sleeping weevils, so, this does not seem wise.
But the weevil I've been following only hiss ducks and goes back to the big pile of friends, so, that worked okay.

I go back out, and the two LARP people are there, and they are Not Happy.
Also, definitely not American now.
But I'm fairly cheerful, and just head back where we came from.

They follow me back and on the way start talking, but it's blather about wondering if I'm nuts, so I ignore it.

The dead guy is still dead. Which is what usually happens, but, Torchwood.

So I reckon out loud, "He was supposed to ambush you and kick off the plot, right?"
And the army surplus guy seems to remember he has a character and blusters a bit in his US accent, but I say not to, he sounds like Owen and I miss Owen.
The LARP people look at each other with rising levels of Uh Oh, but I just say, "alright, what's next?"

Which is around when I woke up, but, I decided the whole thing was a set up to get a whole lot of people trying to open something Torchwood left behind. Like the people who, er, 'salvaged' it from the explosion couldnt get it open, so they copied Torchwood when they recruited via ARG, and set up this 'LARP' with no rules to just funnel people into a puzzle room and see what they made of it.

And of course when I get there I'm actually authorised, because I too did that ARG and got 'recruited' by Torchwood, so whatever it is they've been fussing over just welcomes me.

I figure it's probably Mainframe, or access to her.

But I would get access and put the insides into my bag and then look around for other shiny stuff. Like Jack's coral.

Don't know why they'd let me out again.

Maybe Mr Colchester has been following me the whole time, but he wasn't in my group because I was already known to these people from the board games.

So I'd be being the Face of Torchwood for the night, and then I'd go back home and... either have to move away because cover go boom or have the whole set of people get retconned.

... they took Torchwood tech, they'd get retconned. Well that isn't very nice.

Alternately
they could just be people running a LARP or a scary theme night haunted house
and they find using the Torchwood name
(which is supposed to be so secret it is legend)
gets them rather more than they can handle.

Probably both, really, a bunch of actors who didnt know and one person setting up the clues who did.

Neat setup.
