I watched the first three episodes of Wheel of Time
which I only know from tumblr gifs of ladies kissing.

... it is a lot more violent than what I've been watching. A lot more gore. Internal organs.
Also it did the whole dead woman kicks off a plot bit, which gets boring.

I dont think I like the setup. There appear to be evil races. I never like that.

I know big battles of good vs evil are the done thing, but I'm increasingly tired of battles that dont want you to think about people vs people. They're dangerous.

It has a lot of characters to set up so three episodes is just a beginning, but they're okay so far, potentially interesting.

But this gender stuff so far is dumb.

I dont know. I've got the DVDs so I'll watch the season, but it hasnt won me so far.

Shall see.

I swear for a few seconds I was puzzled at not recalling any ladies kissing in 'Wheel in Space'...

:-)

If you want to know the background of the evil races, I can talk to you about that.

And Wheel of Time is very, very much about that good and evil is all about people. Well. If you discount Shai'tan (entropy personified, from out-universe).

The gender stuff is a whole bag of mess, yep!

Okay so: all of the creatures called 'Shadowspawn' are entirely the fault of one fucking psychopathic utterly evil and depraved bastard (Aginor) during the time of Lews Therin Telamon, during the War of the Shadow. They needed bodies and they couldn't bring people to the Shadow side fast enough, so he made them.

The originals were all made through genengineering a mixture of saidin (the 'male' half of the Power) and the other Power Shai'tan can grant access to with people who've sold It their souls, and they can only exist when Shai'tan has physical access to the world but they grow fast and they breed fast. The Trollocs are multi-admixtures of humans and many varieties of animals. The Myrddraal (Fades, Eyeless) are a 1-in-20 or so throwback sometimes spawned by Trolloc matings (which is the same ratio of channelers to the general human population). The legend that remains to the 'present' day is that it took fifty million human lives to create the original Trollocs. How true that is... who knows? But he did create millions of them.

The others, the Darkhounds and Dragkhar, zomara and gholam, Jumara and Forgers, were similarly crafted, and no-one has any idea how many people died to let Aginor craft them.

Gods yes. SooOO much yes.
