Sometimes I get distracted thinking
how much further gold pieces go here
than on Golarion.

If a starting character has say a minimum of 20 gold pieces or an average of a hundred, which I know is variable by character class, but, if they have that much gold here on Earth, they are going to be able to afford All The Equipment.

At better than masterwork quality.

Including any non magical weapons they can legally get hold of.

I mean a gold piece is heavier than a sovereign, and a sovereign costs over £520 tonight. I reckoned by weight you need 125 sovereigns to be 100gp so... so much money.

The economics of first level adventurers have to be as anomalous as the points buys or roll four drop lowest dice stats. An average lifestyle in their own apartment is listed as costing 10gp a month. But where are they getting that from while they're training? How much are they making, that they can set aside up to 300gp, two and a half years living expenses, to pay for equipment. How rich does a trainee wizard have to be just to write their cantrips into a spellbook? Hardly anyone is going to have the money lying around, the same way hardly anyone is going to have stand out stats good enough to adventure.

It's not just that adventurers have All The Savings. It's that modern Earth can make better stuff for less money, even if you can figure out comparators properly.

Everything is lighter, stronger, warmer, dryer than our ancestors could have had. Usually all at once.
Except down. Down is still superior properties of warm.

I looked up sleeping bags and bedrolls today, while failing to sleep.

Sleeping bags have a handy scale written on (some of) them so you know what temperatures they're meant for instead of vague stuff about seasons. The DofE recommended ones can cope with being slightly freezing. They're all mummy bags though, and I have my suspicions about being sufficiently plus sized. There are specific sleeping bags for women but the measurements on them could do with being more precise about shape.

Bed Rolls kept showing me things marketed as 'adventurers', or 'Western'. Or, sometimes, cotton mattresses you roll up, which seem handy but the pictures were all like glamping and festivals, unlike the adventure ones they show getting snowed on.

Bed Rolls seems to mean a waterproof outer and warm inner, usually oilcloth and wool, which sounds like a heavier sleeping bag. But then the photos have one set up by a motorbike and it's like a sleeping bag sized tent? Like it was propped up over you being waterproof and single sized. Which makes a lot of illustrations of adventurer campfires make more sense. Got a roof and a warm all at once.

But it was heavier than a modern materials actual tent you can sit up in, so I am unsure as to the added utility.

... now I am back to thinking how far gold pieces would spend here if you could bring some back. Starter gold soon starts to look tiny to adventurers. Imagine the housing they could afford...

This is why it could be fun to have a Stargate type situation.

Literally everything else about Golarion makes it a terrible idea though.
Nothing on Earth has a challenge rating like Golarion manages just leaving town.

I keep getting distracted by The Perfect Equipment List
but all it would do in game mechanical terms is help avoid using the encumberance rules
and maybe give a little bonus against environmenta' hazards the game usually ignores anyway.

No amount of Really Good Tent is going to be key to defeating anything with a challenge rating, reckon.

And very few spells would be useful in the here now.

Okays, time to attempt sleep again.
