Mar. 18th, 2006 12:10 amI started putting books on LibraryThing again, which made me think of which gaps in the collection to fill. So I ended up looking at books connected to 'Mage: The Ascension'. Except apparently its changed names again, and probably moved the timeline up. Don't know.
Thing is, I'd like to collect all the Mage books, and all the In Nomine books too. Because both systems are heavy on the philosophy and can do really fun things with the nature of reality. But. They are RPG books, for playing. And I don't currently play. At all. On account of all the people wandered off.
So now I'm trying to decide if I actually want to play enough to go seek out a game group.
If I do it would mean looking for people I don't know. At all. Even a little. Whereas previously I'd only played with the same small group of people, which included people I'd known since I was 12.
It would be very strange.
Plus I'd have to arrange my own transport for a change.
But, I'm kind of bored. I mean a lot of the time I'm busy and/or exhausted, but I'm also bored. I used to like RPGs. I wasn't always particularly good at them, and I'm sure there were times I wound the rest of the group up by being, well, egregiously bad or insane. Plus there was the time I got booted for falling asleep in the corner a lot. So I don't know as I have much to bring to a game group. And since I haven't actually managed to play Mage or In Nomine before I don't know what the games would be like compared to the cool looking rules. Obviously that would depend on who was running and playing them. With new people, tiny knowings. And I don't know how good I'd be at playing them. At all.
So there's a lot of down to the idea.
But... bored. Wanna play. So, there's an up too.
At the moment I don't gots my books. I left them in someones car. Pretty sure they intend to bring them back.
But that part sort of gets in the way of the playing of things too.
I've got GURPS rules for both Mage and In Nomine, which would make it easier to mix the two together, except neither is standard GURPS because both games rely on some extra rules. So it should mix, in theory, but it would be three different systems stirred together, so no knowing how that would turn out. Plus they're both an old edition of GURPS now. But I've got Character Builder for both 3 and 4ed.
If I'm thinking on new groups though, and new systems, I could think wider. Like, I think theres systems for Babylon 5, and I know there are for Buffy and Stargate. Would any of those be fun? Stargate I imagine would work pretty well in GURPS actually, being as its mostly a bunch of soldiers running around. Buffy... I think the magic would be a bit tricksy to game. The thing Ethan did with the costumes... I guess if I ran it through the Spirit rules and say a god did it it would both fit the show and sidestep the whole problem with the power levels that would be required for a straight up spell, let alone the fact I don't know which spell would do all that. Would have to combine a few...
ANYways, nobody interested.
er, which is pretty much my problem.
I could try writing up the Highlander con report, but I'm sort of stuck being floaty and tired and not doing much of anything. I mean I haven't even watched TV today. Seemed like too much effort.
