So, I went round Mum's house to watch Doctor Who again.

First of all, that seems to be the result of minor crossed wires. I was all "Hi Mum, we watched DW last year, so again this year I could come round and we watch DW tonight!" And mum was "yaay, plan!"
Only it turns out the part that was yaay was 'offspring visits for first time since Christmas' (Except I have so visited since then, but somehow it did not reset the counter)
And she doesn't actually like Doctor Who.

So I got to watch with a commentary track.
Including sarcastic remarks, speculations on the reproductive processes of Time Lords, comments like "I thought they were supposed to regenerate, not degenerate" and, at one point, her singing "Who wants to live forever" and saying "There Can Be Only One!"
(So fandom wise I'm doing *something* right, anyways)

So my view of this week got a teensy bit filtered :eyeroll:

Also, mum's TV is strange, the digibox can't figure the aspect ratio, and the subtitles covered half the screen so I watched without.

All in all I probably missed some of the finer details.

That said...

guest stars yaaay!

ASH was... well, he was obviously having fun. And small children would be in absolutely no doubt about the alignment of his character. Yup, that whole performance just... really went for it, didn't it?
Fun.

Sarah Jane! Yaaays!
The Mrs meets the Ex, sayeth Mickey.
Heh.

The part I did not like was the bit where she was all 'woe! waited for you! Had no life of my own!'
For that I do not believe. I'm quite sure she's been doing all kinds of fun. I mean she turned up at the school, no backup, K9 nonfunctional in the car (and, she keeps him in the car always? How cute is that?)

And the Doctor meeting K9 again
cuteness central!

Or possibly cuteness overload.
These episodes were so very fanboy.
Plus they had a particular take on the characters... I mean this was 'ship central. Really. There was no 'companion' bit here, this was about ex girlfriends.

But it was also rather fun.

Rose though... what a pillock. He's a *thousand years old* and she is surprised there's an ex??? Bloody hell woman, you think he was a monk? He told you he danced! Or, to put it the non-ship way, he just wandered in and picked her up and introduced her as his companion, and she thought that was new for him?
Daft.

The plot felt a bit skinny in places.
Like, there's lots of kids at the computers.
Lots of them.
Still at the computers.
Yes, I get it, and I've seen it before.
I had time to calculate that, since the time I was thinking of, I could in fact have offspring of my own of roughly the age I was when I first saw it
which does seem a reasonable interval between plot element recycling

And then it turns out there's a god equation
... okays ...

and that 'lonely god' thing a couple of weeks back, that wouldn't be a Great Big Clue, would it?

blah.

Doctor Is Tempted
Sarah Jane Is Wise, and Lets Him Go
(for pain and loss is part of life, and everything has a time to die)

is so fun being a fan of a show with such subtlety and depth!

okay, snark overload...

The 'curse of the Time Lords' bit was blah. I mean when they were plural, it wasn't much of a curse, and now not-being-plural is surely more of a big deal than being really old.
and there's that Face of Boe dude last week, he was all ancient.

So if its that much of a big deal, why doesn't he hang out when medical technology makes humans a bit more long lived?
And is he really blaming the serial companions thing on ageing?
And he went back and visited the Brigadier enough times. Is it different when its girls?

The confidential was kind of lame any time there was no guest star chat, but kind of cool those minutes when there was.

ASH got gooped :)

K9 go boom!
New K9!

K9 with all the same memories? I was all 'what, you can't pull the memory card?' with the big sad farewell good dog bit.
heh, bad dog too :)

Anyways, I've gone random.

I think I liked the ep okay, but it felt a bit slow in places, and mum commentary rather changed the experience. So I'll have more opinion after other showing.

Now I get some food.
There was supposed to be apple pie, but it turned out to be cinnamon sugar with a few apple lumps, so that didn't work so well.
I think I shall have teacakes.
