Justice League
Mar. 12th, 2004 10:03 amIf I like slash then why did I find the whole let's explore our sexuality thing the nail in the coffin, the thing that relegated Justice League comics from must-have to utterly yawn worthy?
First of all slash is fun partly because you have to read between the lines. Part of the appeal is seeing something not everyone knows to look for. That said, if there was a Booster and Beetle wedding issue, would I be interested? Yes. Oh yes. Because those guys care about each other so much, and because I care about them.
Like with Willow and Tara, it didnt stop being sweet because it got official, they loved each other and it was wonderful.
Fire and Ice were the other 'couple' on my favourite incarnation of the team, and seeing them get together would have been interesting too (even though the whole Guy/Ice thing was alternately amusing and sweet to watch). Willow & Tara type thing. But then they killed Ice and brought in Icemaiden and Bea got all intense about her and then Icemaiden turns out to like girls and... I don't know the and because I stopped buying the comic. I didnt care. It wasnt Fire&Ice, it was some blue broad with ice powers and a really upset grieving woman. Not cute. Not wonderful. Not what I want to see. Not even Willow/Kennedy (and I disliked that pairing quite intensely, and want Willow to get over rebound girl *now* and go date... well, okay, a quiet bookish agoraphobic chaos mage with a livejournal, maybe with the initials be, but that isnt the whole point.) Its like they brought back Tara's twin sister and tried to push a romance based on the new girl being kinda like the other one only, you know, alive. But wait! They did exactly that with Metamorpho and the Crimson Fox! Classy.
Same sex romance between boring people is just plain boring. I want my league back, in all its slashy glory. *sigh* My league being decades in the past now, not so much likely.
On the up side I've located the double issues and the holes in my collection, so may be making a trip to the comic shop for the first time this century. My budget hates this idea, but what does it know?
