Illustrated Giles
Aug. 27th, 2004 03:05 amHad a dream this morning with a much younger version of Giles with many pretty, pretty tattoos.
The dream was kinda very odd.
It was some kind of AU and I knew it was, ie the universe I was used to didnt match the one I found myself in. A whole bunch of people were hunting me because I had special powers. This time it was the power to see inside someones soul and see all the icky nasty things there. Or the shiny things, but to start with I was surrounded by very not shiny people. So there was running away, and allies and enemies and stuff as per usual.
The Alt-Joyce and Giles turned up.
Alt-Joyce was a very, very bad lady. Never had any children in the usual sense, but had many in the bad bad icky sense. Used children for her own ends. Bad lady. So I struck her with my fairy wand (yes, random costume parts, it was a *dream*), and it turned out to be a tazer, and fried her. Bzzzt bzzzt bzzzt. She went all skull showing and frazzled like a cartoon, only smellier. I was very sad to do that, but not guilty because it had to be done. Bad lady.
But then I was scared because I knew Giles was in the next room, and he had arrived with Alt-Joyce, and seemed to be working with her for the bad government people. And if Giles was a bad man and I had to hurt him... very very bad idea.
So I went through the door with much trepidation.
Giles had his jacket off, and also his shirt hanging down around his elbows mostly off. His vest was torn on one side and he was trying to see the back of his shoulder. There was a burn mark there, shiny and irregular, about where Angel's tattoo would be. There was also rather a lot of Giles skin showing. So I asked him to put his shirt back on because it was rather distracting. He shrugged it back on and did the top buttons up before he turned round. So the shirt was all flapping and his vest showing and he looked all dishevelled and cute.
So I looked with my superpowers, and *phew*. It was Giles. Same good person Giles. Lots of shadows in there, but not evil blobby badness. I was so relieved I hugged him. Which he found somewhat surprising since he'd been thinking I was going to kill him. But then he hugged me back, and it turned into the best hug ever.
My arms were under his shirt and wrapped tight around him, and at first he was all standing very straight and away from me, uptight. But then he relaxed. Instead of trying not to touch me he leant into me. And then he put his arms round me. And we kind of moved together, getting comfortable, a thousand little adjustments to make us fit until we touch about everywhere. Warm and breathing and heartbeat and small movements all alive against me, his body reacting to me. And then he dropped his head down so his chin was behind my shoulder, and wrapped me up tight and held on. And it was the best feeling ever. Like home and love and acceptance and all the best good things. Best. Hug. Ever.
So then of course we had to go on the run together to get away from the evil government. We ended up in a hotel room so small the door wouldnt open all the way because the bedside cabinet was in the way. The walls were a couple of kinds of deep red. The furniture was all dark woods. It looked like a much more expensive room had shrunk. But the bathroom was almost as big as the bedroom, and everything in there was in dark greens.
Giles went in there to have a shower. Then the water turned off, but he didn't come out. So when I decided he'd been in there a long time, I walked in.
He was sitting on a cabinet next to the bath, toweling off his hair, with another big bath towel wrapped round him. As soon as he moved the towel away from his face and saw I was there he moved the big towel to cover as much of him as possible, which was most of him (*sad sigh*). He had his left foot up on the cabinet he was sitting on and sort of seemed to try and hide behind his leg, which didn't work very well. The towel covered more, but that leg and a strip of his chest and his neck and one shoulder all stuck out of it. And a lot of what showed was covered in tattoos.
The tattoos were very, very pretty.
He had kind of a collar of blue roses. It only went up his neck a little way, so a standard button up collar could cover it, but it went down in a v shape at the front. In a t-shirt with the right kind of neck line it would rise up like an extension of the shirt, like the shirt had a floral collar, only then if you got close enough you would see it was all ink and skin. The shape was kind of a like a gorget- pointy collar bit of armour. The edges were all entwined leaves, and the middle was filled up with blue roses. A blue rose is impossible, so it means impossibility and imagination, and also not accepting limits. But it was a collar, so a bit like restraint, but also armour shapes, so like being protected by them. Green edges, blue center, very bright colors, not sun faded at all. Masculine colors but a sort of feminine subject. No thorns that I noticed, just leaves and flowers.
All up the front of his left leg was a diamond trellis of leaves, like xxx only vertical, quite large so each diamond was the full width of the front of his leg, with different patterns in each diamond.
The one I could see had two celtic lions heads facing in opposite directions, each with wings but no body, just tall wings sticking up so they were shaped like an L only two back to back, facing away from each other into the pointy part of the diamond. The lions were dark red and behind them were bright red rectangular knotwork patterns. Those were also split up the middle, one pattern on each side of the diamond, one behind each lion. The lions didn't interrupt or interact with the pattern, it was just a background for them. It was a whole courage and duality pattern, but also vaguely evocative of Angel's tattoo, which was odd, but interesting.
So because they were so pretty I'm vaguely trying to think if canon Giles could possibly have some of them. Only I'm thinking they're far too colorful and pretty for canon Giles. Black or muted I can see, but these were really beautiful and vivid. And also very floral. Kind of Green Man, but also roses. It seems too... I want to say too alive. Not preserved like books or artefacts, too current and growing.
But a Giles who would want to get ink like that could be interesting. Or a Giles who has ink like that somewhere about him, from a phase before libraries, but is now all paper and browns. Kind of sad, but interesting.
