I'm watching it again. Somebody stop me...
Jan. 3rd, 2007 01:41 amSee torchwood.org.uk site for why Owen was asleep on the sofa at work, all blurry. (Probably, it doesn't explicitly say)
... see, you'd think colleagues might, you know, ask what was up.
If it were at all unusual.
... Ianto looks bloody gorgeous in a waistcoat.
I was trying to think the other day of good clothes to dress people up in, but I kind of don't want to change anything about Ianto.
Looks *very* good in a suit.
Plus there's options then - shiny, tidy, neat, or loosening up a bit, or plain losing it, clothes all over the place. Expressive sort of clothes.
also Tosh sucks at undercover. Loudly declaring "We're meant to be blending in" doesn't sound suspicious at all. :eyeroll:
Also later she yells Jack, which 41Jack hears too.
Which leaves you to wonder what he thought.
I love her eyeroll hiss "Jack" when he's all "I didn't realise he was so hot"
Ianto "All those young soldiers"
written the line could be, um, different, but he's clearly notJack-like leering, he's with that sad voice.
... I have a pet theory he's ex-military. Or public school. Or both.
I have no data, but then it's not like there's any contradiction, right?
... he's just so tidy. And he says 'sir'.
How come Owen is the boss of anyone when Ianto knows all the stuff? Notices details, he does. Laptop she never goes anywhere without. How come Owen doesn't know that?
Ianto isn't very decisive. I'd figure a rather profound loss of confidence after last time (1-04) worked out so badly. Difficult to decide when you've screwed it up so badly.
Which should be a fun theme for next year.
This Bilis dude... So he's a timejumper, a teleporter, *and* a telepath? Creating the visions?
With just the visions, at sufficient strength, he could play them all the other ways.
But time travel is clearly possible in this 'verse, so I reckon it's meant to be for real.
Also I wouldn't unreal Jack/Jack for anything.
41Jack and his men - someone suggested they were copies of Jack's team. Owen for the obnoxious one, Tosh for the math geek public school boy. Which, okay, maps, *but*, I think it's Owen and Ianto, with significant absence of Tosh or Gwen. Because his team would be smaller for not having women in it at the time.
Their total faith in their captain compare/contrasts with Team Torchwood, rather unfortunately.
"Having a night with the men" is obviously code. ;-)
Other things about Ianto in this ep - gives orders, shoots in the shoulder on purpose... If they're clues... add it to the mention on the website that getting into Torchwood 3 involved a demotion...
You know, it is possibly Ianto is a tea boy with big aspirations trying to be Jack, but it would be so much less fun than taking all the pieces and making him... I don't know, James Bond sprang to mind. His skill set is kind of astonishing. Toshiko's equations might be a bit over his head, but he's got tech skills, intelligence analysis... and a snappy dress sense. (Sorry, I looked at the TV again and got entirely distracted. He's very very cute.)
"Who exactly put you in charge?" Owen yells at Ianto, but Gwen obeys the order. Fortunately.
Never take drinks from the evil. Er, Klingon flashbacks, "Drink not with thine enemy"
Owen claiming to be second in command, yet Gwen listens to Ianto. Their chain of command is really messed up.
I'm not sorry Ianto shot Owen, I'm just sorry he didn't do it sooner.
Unless he knew the rift machine wasn't going to work all those earlier times, it was way too indecisive for a world ending decision.
... hang on, unless he knew.
"You don't have any power over me"
and yet then Owen caves...
Jack's voice for "Go after her. Kiss her goodbye."
went all shaky!
... now I'm listening with my eyes closed and it's... there's a lot of stuff going on in voice right there.
... I just realised his girlfriend is called Nancy. Which makes him Nancy's... er, lets not finish the thought.
"A captain needs to explain the risks, tell his men what to expect"
... yes, Jack? Er... his keep his head - share data balance is just a teensy on the bravado side next ep. Not that I'd call him a hypocrite, just... practice-preach divide.
"He hadn't lived"
"Have any of us"
... ouch
hug!
eyes!
... er, incoherence, meaning overload.
All that "I hope you like treasure hunts" bit... without Bilis that wouldn't have worked at all. Haven't they thought about this stuff?
Note to self: Use GURPS books as training manuals. GURPS Infinite Worlds has a better set of instructions for this cross time communication stuff.
... you know, should I ever be ina universe where it is at all relevant.
(so many shows, you want to yell at the crack team that they should have hired more RPGers)
Yelling for Toshiko, she yells "Jack", 41Jack looks back at her. Yup.
Owen is such an *idiot* in this one. When the bad guy has the key, you stop and think about it. Fuck's sake, that's not something he should hae just lying around. And why not keep it in the safe? Why have an empty safe?
You think Owen thought about that for a second?
*thwaps him*
*waits for Ianto to do it better*
Jack/Jack eyes meep
airtight tin + blood... people are saying blood would fade. Okay. Maybe. But Bilis took the can anyway, so it isn't exactly relevant.
And I have to cover the screen for the writing in blood part. too ouch!
Owen is being so shifty. Gwen could read it as awkward at her, but...
Train of thought derailment, Jack/Jack again. meep!
So why the time shifts? Controlled rift effect? Uncontrolled Bilis is exploiting? Something Bilis can do? All sorts of interesting possibilities.
... and the important question - does Toshiko get more than first aid with geek boy? ;-)
"I'd like some time in private with Captain Harper"
eyes eyes eyes eyes eyes meeeep
... Harper is still weird on Jack though. I mean, ties the two even closer than previous, but... strange.
When they're present day in the dance hall you see a whole lot of electrical outlets and fire alarm cases. Using them to make it look contemporary, deliberate.
Owen is an idiot. Someone sabotaged the numbers, means someone has a plan. Doesn't mean hit the big doom button.
Jack/Jack
"I just think you should live every night as if it were your last. Make tonight the best night of your life. You're alive, right here, right now. Your men are fine."
"What are you trying to say"
biiiiiiig pause
because Jack was trying to say what other Jack was hoping
I mean "There's no one" and meaning it is a look off to the side all distant and mopey thing, but "there's no one" and direct eye contact? Oh, that is a message.
"That's the way Jack likes it" is an echo of Cyberwoman, but he sure as hell didn't approve back then.
This is twice in one episode Owen's done safe cracking. You've got to wonder what his skill set covers ;-)
... yes I know he had tech and passwords.
I like it that they go back through the known before they get to the handy dandy solution.
"Not for use" Is a bloody daft label for something that could be so easily destroyed.
"This could be your last chance"
"That's why I came back"
hands!
gods this is romantic
not just sexy, classic romance here.
Look on Jack's face! I mean he has all these stories about his conquests, but that was not a conquest face right there, that was a... gift.
"To incite total chaos and distraction"
"Please listen to me"
Ianto begs nicely
"He's our leader"
this to him is the ultimate answer?
ooooh, that looks painful.
actor gives good pain face.
... you've got to hope it's always fake and nobody missed anything ;-)
I've read someone reckoning Jack never thought about other-Jack before. But he knows a hell of a lot of details for someone that maybe never thought of them.
Useful to his cover, yeah, but telling them he's *feeling* them.
Ianto + gun should not = hot.
"Who were you"
"A con man"
Jack confession!
"How did you end up in Torchwood" was not in fact answered. I mean "Someone saved my life" sounds like an answer, but we know it has nothing to do with Torchwood, and Tosh doesn't, so she probably fills in the gaps wrong even after he's just told her he's a con man.
That's class, that is.
"you're just a tea boy"
"I;m much more than that. Jack needs me."
"In your sad wet dreams where he's your part-time shag"
the funny part is it looks like Owen doesn't think that's true.
"The rift took my lover and my captain"
... leaves you to wonder, just maybe, if those are two people. I'm not liking the thought, but...
"There was magic abroad in the air"
And I'm *watching* this.
... damn.
just...
I make sad puppy noises about that whole section.
... and telled the screen off again again. go kiss!
I've seen sex that was less sexy than that kiss. That was one hell of a kiss.
Owen reckons they did the right thing, Ianto's expression says just a little bit of doubt but also much disagreement. But the real taking offence face was when Owen doubted his aim.
Owen just calmly fixing himself up is... somewhere between class and LOL.
"There were angels dancing at the Ritz"
just a hint of bitter there.
"Captain Jack" and a toast - with alcohol, which he hadn't been taking all night or any other time except when his lover died. Ouch.
Okay, I've only rewatched this last one twice, so I'll go watch from the sofa and properly.
... see, you'd think colleagues might, you know, ask what was up.
