Have developed new theory of why women in Torchwood fancy Owen:
You know that thing where someone is so totally gorgeous nobody dares ask them out?
That's Jack.

Then there's Owen standing next to him, grinning, happily attainable.


Now granted the theory seems flawed when Jack talks like he's the most attainable guy in Cardiff, or possibly in this arm of the spiral galaxy, but there's an awful lot more talk than actual doing. So that just adds a slight puzzlement to the dazzle. Exposure to Jack makes people think many sex related things, and then he's wandered off without them.

Owen gets the leftovers.

I still have an almost finished fic featuring Owen.
This theory has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Yes, I like this theory. Especially when you consider that Ianto may be putting out 'unavailable' vibes because he's busy with Jack, having figured out in episode 8 that Jack may not be quite as unavailable as it seemed.

Mind you, if I was Gwen, I'd go for Tosh. Owen wouldn't even be on the list....

No, no, I must confess, while I was watching "Greeks Bearing Gifts" again last week, there was a full moment where I actually found Owen attractive. Now, how did that happen?

Yes I like this theory, although I still maintain I wouldn't shag Owen if he was the last man in the universe. Having said which, my own moment (mercifully brief) of finding Owen attractive was in Countrycide.

It does make a lot of sense, actually. Jack's definitely more than attractive enough to seem unattainable for that reason alone. He's also quite weird if you haven't a clue about his background - the clothes, the talk of shagging aliens and getting pregnant, unearthly knowledge, etc. - and I could see how that might put the Torchwood folks off him as a potential partner, gorgeous or not. At least with Owen one knows what one's getting - bit of a prick but very available and clearly up for random meaningless sex.

I like this theory. I also suspect that Owen's persistent when he decides he wants to seduce a woman -- we see this onscreen with Gwen and Diane. He just keeps pushing and won't take no for an answer, and half of his conquests give in out of exasperation (the other half find his attentions flattering or, God help us, charming).

Actually I've had that theory for a very long time. I've known drop-dead gorgeous people who got less sex than average looking ones because people were too intimidated to ask them out. People are strange ike that.

True, but this actually makes him more appealing in my case, I like weird :-). Owen is just TOO persistent. This often gives the impression of desperation (he's really very insecure) which would put a lot of women off. I tend to agree that a lot give in out of exasperation and the rest are probably as sad and desperate as he is. I feel quite sorry for him on occasions.
