Artificial gravity
Aug. 24th, 2009 07:53 pmI started watching Firefly and I've got totally distracted by thinking on artificial gravity. I mean, it's all very well to have gravity that turns on with a flick of a switch. Superscience, sure, but practical television. And then to say every small moon is terraformed so the gravity is close to earth-that-was, fair enough, film on Earth and don't look wrong. But... well... then every small moon is making a gravity dent like Earth does, and everything goes crunch, right? Except then every small ship would do the same thing, and no. So clearly there's a height limit on this gravity, as well as a direction that stays the same on every deck without making things stick to the outside. But they're pushing themselves around between planets with something glowy and flamey, rather than with deck gravity, which far as we can see neither glows nor flames. And...
... it's a word trick meant to make filming easier, is all.
But... if it existed? World changing much? So I keep getting stuck chewing on it.
