Ripper
Fools Journey
2

Higher

Part: 3/7

Rating: I'm aiming for a tone much like Buffy or Angel, which are 15 to 18 rated in the UK.
Pairing(s): Giles and Ethan are in the same story, therefore it is vaguely G/E
Spoilers: Post Chosen, post Not Fade Away. Refers to earlier series canon.
Third in my Fool's Journey series, the rest in memories here or my fic tag. This one should basically make sense as a stand alone.

Summary: Rupert Giles and Ethan Rayne. Best mates, worst enemies, sometimes both at once. They've got a lot of history. So even when the Initative took Ethan away, Giles was sure he'd see him again, sooner or later...
Now the late Ethan Rayne is turning out to be twice the trouble, and Giles must be the one to deal with it.

So the shop sent 'large malted grain baps' last week instead of regular wholemeal. They're a bit strange, but edible. But today I had soup, and put a bread roll in it like usual. Only now I can only eat half the soup before I'm too full up to eat any more. I can't decide if this is good, because, not like I need to eat as much as I usually do anyway. Or, bad, because eating is, you now, necessary.

There's something on FilFour at the moment, some animated thingy with subtitles. I only put the tv on because I was sat in front of it. But this is sort of interesting. There was names in a book, and then a cat on the subway, and now follow the cat to a shop full of all kinds of... not exactly toys, too expensive, rocking horses with jewels on and a clock that makes all kinds of little moving people. Is very pretty.
I don't know if its got what I'd call a story so far, but lots of pretty is happening, so I don't exactly mind.

Foreign language films are sort of relaxing. Don't have to decipher words. Just listen to tone of voice and read. I like it.

So far the story of the film is that a girl decides to write a story and it has the same name as this story we are watching.
Also it isa bout meeting a boy who read all the same books as her, and doesn't want to interrupt while she writes.

It doesn't have any vampires in anywhere, and is therefore not the kind of thing I'd usually watch. But it is pretty.

Is two hours early a teensy bit too much early to put the TV on for Torchwood?

Is 'Deep Impact'. I suspect I've seen it before, yet I do not remember it.

According to the 'info' button the film is about a big rock is going to hit the earth. If that is so, does it really need a great big predictable flaming car crash?

Not that I don't like big fiery car crashes in general, but it don't seem like much of a start to a film.

Bored now.

Everything goes horribly wrong, of course.

... I have to say, as a general rule, I don't think "This is your only chance to survive" is in fact an especially romantic proposal. But hey, now she marries a hobbit, cool.

Oh for... What kind of *idiot* doesn't get on the last bus to survival? Ack! Put the baby on the teenager with the precipitous wedding - because, plausible - and get on the bus!

It says something about my preoccupations that my very *next* thought is that, if you need a marriage certificate to get your partner on the bus, there's a whole lot of angsty slash to be made of it.

Also it really annoyed me when fake president got religious.

My brain, it do not stop.

Eesh, so of course they aren't at home when he goes to look. Smart. :eyeroll:

I've been rearranging my front room. I figured my sofa needed to be about a foot further back in order to get a really good picture. This turns out to be doable, but now I have to climb over the sofa to get to the computer. Obviously this is less than ideal.

Also the computer desk is pushed so far up against the window I think its kind of in it.

Maybe if I move the shelves I can get the sofa more sideways and get out without falling over...

Yup, that worked :-)

Of course it *still* looks better from further back. :eyeroll extremely:

Deep Impact is really *miserable*.

Oh, and "Europe and Africa were hit too" is as much as the rest of the world gets? Wonderful.

Heh, trashed looking place there. Funny.

... I have a weird sense of funny.

Right then, Torchwood is next.

Dear god that was good.
I was all 'holy shit!' and 'oh my GOD' and... Woah! *Extremely* cool.

I was incoherent with squee. Still am.

That was very, very good.

In fact, the radio times website reckons these are on again at about one in the morning... And right now I'm seriously considering staying up to watch.

I need some kind of recording device. Tivo, DVD recorder, I don't even know. I haven't felt the need for one for... Years, seriously. Not even watching Doctor Who.

But now I *need* to record this.

That's just... Wow. Fannish at first sight. Captain Jack swept me off my feet from his... second episode, I think. First episode left me wary but hopeful. This show? I'm already planning the convention attendance.

... The little voice at the back of my head that has watched a whole lot of TV is praying 'please don't let them mess this up now'

*sigh*

But, *wow*. Instant fan. Totally.

I've read a bunch of Torchwood comments about how it's exactly like (Doctor Who, Outer Limits, Angel, insert-show-here).
They're about 50/50 on if this is a cause of woe or squee.

I made some comparisons myself
but
I think by this point most of the plots have been used, all the variation is in the characters in them.

Actually the DW comparison I read was about the characters so, er, okay, my point becomes less worky

but

I refuse to de-squee just because its made from parts

everything is made from parts!

These parts were pretty.
