Torchwood, and Declassified
Oct. 23rd, 2006 03:04 amOkay, so, I, er, just stayed up until 0300 to rewatch something I watched once this evening already.
I'm a fan. We do this.
... Right?
ANYways
Second viewing, caught a few places where it looked clunkier, or... like they'd pasted different takes together and the seams showed?
But mostly in episode 2.
And in the Declassified it said they filmed 2 first so they could go back and do 1 after a bit of practice.
Not much was said in the Declassified that was especially interesting.
Also, on my TV, it was incredibly blurry in some places and weirdly stripy in others. Sometimes I hate my tv. But watching the actual episodes, or clips from them, I *love* it, because it really shows them off well.
They showed us around the Hub.
Jack lives there. In a hole in the ground. Apparently.
... one wonders if he always goes to their place or just relies on being really distracting ...
They said that they wanted to use the eps to say something about the world.
So, themey, and with layers, and social comment and suchlike. Yaays.
My mind only drifted a little bit in the bits with no talking.
Which considering the time of night is not bad going.
I definitely love this show.

Torchwood ratings
Oct. 23rd, 2006 12:51 pm2.4 million viewers, with a 12.5% share — as suspected, a record for BBC3
*happy dance*
Lots of people's comments behind the link, including the 'derivative' thing again.
I'd just like to see any of them come up with even one idea that hasn't been done before.
Don't reckon it can be done, especially when everything gets boiled down to the general like that.

Torchwood thoughts from the website
Oct. 23rd, 2006 02:17 pmAfter digging through the Torchwood.org.uk website (html only version, because *most annoying interface ever* even if it does match some stuff I think I saw in the background on TV)
Ianto gets a lot more interesting
Owen I think I'm more sure of my read of him

The Rift Report is interesting. Shows rift activity for the previous 4 months - so this is what is going on before the show starts. Clues!

There's a convention 10-12 Nov 2006
which inclues a Sunday
which means Torchwood day
!
and the hotel *doesn't have BBC3*
noooooooo!
... Yes I'll be home for a repeat at some point, but that's not the point.
... I really need to get some kind of recorder. It just means researching new-to-me tech, and that seems like a lot of bother.

Fic: RFJ 2: Higher, part 4/7
Oct. 23rd, 2006 05:22 pmFools Journey
2
Higher
Part: 4/7
Rating: I'm aiming for a tone much like Buffy or Angel, which are 15 to 18 rated in the UK.
Pairing(s): Giles and Ethan are in the same story, therefore it is vaguely G/E
Spoilers: Post Chosen, post Not Fade Away. Refers to earlier series canon.
Third in my Fool's Journey series, the rest in memories here or my fic tag. This one should basically make sense as a stand alone.
Summary: Rupert Giles and Ethan Rayne. Best mates, worst enemies, sometimes both at once. They've got a lot of history. So even when the Initative took Ethan away, Giles was sure he'd see him again, sooner or later...
Now the late Ethan Rayne is turning out to be twice the trouble, and Giles must be the one to deal with it.
38000 words total, 6950 words this part
Disclaimer: Joss told us to "Write fan fic."
So they're still his toys, but he seems to not mind us playing with them.
No money, no harm.

So, what if it really is All About Jack?
Oct. 23rd, 2006 10:50 pmThinking about the first two episodes in light of Jack's Issues ( Read more... )
for a bunch of disconnected thoughts, that ended up kind of long.
Some shows you can look at various characters and their stories as illuminating a central character. Some shows they kind of... pass the baton and have different who it is abouts. The only one we want to know about so far is Jack, who is set up as The Mystery for a lot of the other characters. Gwen has a very ordinary up front life so far, and is the one who wants to do the finding out. So I wonder, is it really telling us all about Jack?
But it isn't called Harkness, it is called Torchwood.
Among other things, this makes it much easier should any and/or all characters leave. Can keep the team and replace all the parts of it.
Without the slightly embarrassing 'which one's Blake' questions.
