Happiness is waking up to a reply from the tutor saying not only is an extension no problem but I can have more time than I asked for :-)

now if I can just stop feeling sick all will be shiny

... mornings. not my favourite places.

Went to bed last night after I got home from college, still saw 0300 without sleeping. What up with that? I was tired. Believe me, very tired. But asleep? Nooooo.

... Somewhere in the back of my mind me and Jack and Ianto set up house together somewhere in Cardiff with a minimum of actual invading monsters and a maximum of sitting around on sofas watching DVDs. And then the Doctor dropped in and borrowed Jack for a while, and we were all *sulk*.
And then I re-ran the story with if CyberRead more... )

What interested me though was the potential effect on Ianto. Read more... )

One off episodes aren't half way enough to explore the kind of emotional knock on effects that seem most fun to me. And episode-style action tends to leave less room for them too. If survival is the main priority then Ianto's angst isn't. Or Jack comforting him. And where's the fun then?

... of course really fun canon can certainly fit it in around the edges.

Once again I have acquired more books instead of actually doing things.

... yeah, I know.

But.

This one is interesting.

Textual Intervention: Critical and Creative Strategies for Literary Studies, Rob Pope.
it reckons it has "interactive strategies for exploring texts through re-writing and analysis"
It was written down as being useful for the current assignment, the group one with the making up drama. But it looked interesting so I bought it.

... The fact I still have money as well as an ever increasing library continually surprises me.
The fact that my new shelves were full technically before I finished putting them up surprises me not at all.

ANYways

I've flicked through it at random and it seems to be a book of ways to write fanfic and reasons it is a valid way to make comments on texts (and get marks in assignments).

*very big grin*

... Yeah, random sample leaves much room for disappointment, but it sounds like fun so far.

"De-Centering and Re-Centering a Literary Classic"
section has definitions of three kinds of intervention:
textual: intervention from 'within' the text - reconstructing around other textually available centres.
contextual: intervention from 'outside' the text - bringing the text into contact and collision with other centres of interest in the contemporary context.
cross-textual: supervention of the text - shifting the centre of attention to another text (and perhaps author and discourse) entirely - albeit ones that are still obliquely related.

... which my brain translates to 'canon characters, OCs, and Xovers'

My only complaint about the book so far is it was advertised as 'like new - bought for course not taken' and yet it falls open at particular places, has curled up corners, and generally looks very much like a book carted around in a bag a lot.
But I figure the price matches the actual condition well enough, compared to the fuss of refunds or something. I'll just knock a star off the feedback.

rewatched the episode
always find I watch the faces more on second watch, first being more about the subtitles. bit of a drawback, I know.
ANYways

seemed to clunk even more this time. I didn't miss any plot developments, they really did change direction without any reason. And there were more points where I blinked and wondered what got cut and why, because those lines just didn't stick together, much less flow.

Other times, mostly with Jack, they were having two conversations at once. Which was rather cool.

There were some themey links between parts. Specifics - Read more... )
There was no logic and it relied on telling because it had nothing to show us. That's the feeling I'm left with on second viewing.

So even without the still makes me sick specific, I don't think this one was very good.
