Had a rather sparkly dream involving a fleet of old school sailing ships, all sorts of shapes and sizes of them but I don't know words for all that. I was a magic user and second in command of the fleet, but our admiral had something bad happen and wasn't there any more. So we got Admiral Adama from Battlestar Galactica. He wouldn't take charge just from being asked, he had to be voted in by the council of captains. Captains have a vote share based on how many ships they run, and some other stuff. He said he wouldn't take more than 10% of power, would share with me and some other woman the dream only vaguely sketched in because a triumvirate is more cool. I said that if he was chosen I'd sign over enough of my power he had a voting majority. And then everyone who owed me favours voted for him and it was a landslide victory.

His vote campaign had some songvid with Apollo and Starbuck and how he'd never give up looking for them. On account of them being missing, one would guess.

So then he was the boss and I was the not-quite-boss and my ship needed someone to be the boss of it while I was busy being the boss of everyone.

And Captain Jack Sparrow had turned up with only a small boat and an unconscious person to his name. Still, technically, a Captain, but not the world's most useful one. So I put him in charge of my ship, the Rainbow Serpent. My crew were a motley bunch, chosen more for their special skills than them being team players.

Amanda from Highlander was on there. Very special skills.

Later Captain Jack Harkness turned up, but I didn't have a ship for him. But then luckily my other ship, the one that got nicked, turned up on the horizon, and the two Captains Jack and me all went and nicked it back. That one was the Feathered Serpent. We had a whole snake thing going on. Harkness was the boss of that one, and it had a whole 'flight' kind of theme. Amanda went with him.

Hello to the pretty.

I'm a bit fuzzy on who the bad guys actually were.

There was this spectacular gorgeous Art Deco hotel that turned out to be sort of a time trap, with bits existing in different eras and some of them collapsing under the strain. All very interesting, potentially.

There was an Admiral Cain, who was undead on account of the Mark. And presumably whoever shot her in the head was in Big Trouble too. Maybe having to get killed and come back a whole bunch of times?

There were probably zombie pirates involved somewhere.

But mostly there was me being the secret boss of everything, as is my natural right ;-)

I could write this up as original fic with very little tweakage.
Except I don't think I like sailing ships. They seem very complicated and historical. I like handwavey spaceships.

There's nothing to say that space zombies wouldn't work out.

Suppose it would cut down on the need for spacesuits too.

Puzzlement

In a fandom where the relationship I read about was never a couple, always part of three, how come people still write angsty love triangle jealousy stuff? I mean, two people love Jack, he's not going to perceive that as a problem. Not in any world I can make fit.

Two people love Jack and mildly loathe each other, that could be a problem. But then the fun is seeing how they fit together. Having snarky bitey arguments about who doesn't belong, and Jack not participating at all except as some distant object of desire, seems like a pattern imported from another paradigm. Can't see it.

Coffee vs Tea wars I can see, Jack staying neutral I can't.

Note to fic writers:
Paragraphs?
*very helpful*

I don't know if it's LJ doing something in the Rich Text editor or what, but trying to read it as one solid block of text... urgh.

PS: If paragraphs are present, it probably helps to have more than one sentence in them. If you'd have to breathe more than once to say the thing? Probably could use more punctuation.

PPS: Beta readers? Still helpful.

I have now caught up with reading fanfic.
I seem to have read every Jack/Ianto fic in existence.
Or at least every one on the Torchwood Three community newsletter.

This may not sound impressive
but
I only started at New Year.

*headdesk quietly*

Most of them I liked are in Memories. Some are on del.icio.us (sp?) because they weren't on LJ.

Very, very, very few of them have an actual plot.

I shall therefore be greatly distinctive as a writer if I actually get around to the writing part any time soon.

It isn't that I don't like sex. Or happy snuggly stories. Just they get a tad bit samey when they're stripped of context, outside events, and anything beyond description.

Suits and braces and stopwatch and coffee are all yaay, yes, but I rather like the saving the world parts, you know?

Also, have long since had enough of suicide.
At this point I'm reduced to giggling about it, or just closing the story.
Because past a certain point it just goes road runner.

Also also, I appear to have guilt about reading NC17 stuff involving the Doctor.
Finding some of it involving extreme kink and stuff that only immortals can get away with I could in fact have lived without.
... in a pass the brain-o sense ...

... come to think, there *is* a good use for retcon ...

PS Have noticed I have about 137 stories Memoried yet have sent, er, possibly about 13 bits of feedback.

Feedback to Torchwood fandom: You don't suck! On the whole. Most of the time. Especially the stories with capital letters, paragraphs, punctuation, spellcheckers, and (rare wonder) beta readers. In fact, y'all look really a lot like most fandoms. With lots of fanfic in.

Slightly short on MPreg, considering, but I'm sure that'll be fixed shortly.

... slightly less sarcastic feedback: There's a bunch of good stories out there.
The hot ones I can't FB on because I blush too much and sometimes steam up my glasses. But there are some that are very hot.
And a lot of angsty drabbles. Angsty drabbles and ficlets, never going to be in short supply.

I'll have to go through all the stories again to make any sort of recs post. May be some time.
