Mum went with me to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
:-D
It was a lot like a middle. But there were excellent fights and chases and fights some more. Also there was dragon, and I can't decide if there was too much or too little dragon, so there was probably just about enough.
Most excellent dragon.

I don't have much to say about it because most of what I would say is all BOOM and WHOOSH and swoopy hand movements. I did like the dwarves using their knowledge of the ground, their forges, and their chemicals. I could see why they thought it was worth a try, and I could see why it didn't work, and it was very shiny to watch.

I did not so much like the thing where suddenly there's a girl so it's all about fancying her. I mean, the guy is the damsel in distress, and having your life saved repeatedly is an excellent way to decide someone is shiny, and the conversation about starlight was neat, but then some people started giggling when she went all glowy, so, you know, probably not quite the effect they were going for. I did like the fights though, she fights plenty well.

Barrels! That bit was good. Whoosh! *swoopy motions* Splash!

I liked lots of parts. I liked that they decided to add a girl.
I am unsure about what they did with this girl character.

I'd quite like it if they kept saying dwarf women have beards and left us wondering about all of them. Problematic in other ways, but some ways fun.

Dragons and barrels and spiders, and Gandalf vs the Eye, that was all good stuff.

The film finished just when the bus home was leaving, so we had an hour to fill. So I watched all of the end credits, which mum thought was silly, but I like seeing how many humans it takes to make all that whoosh. Then we sat in the cinema for the rest of half an hour, and then at the bus station for the other half an hour. I had dressed appropriately and only my face and bits of my feet got cold, because I forgot the second pair of winter socks. Mum was cold and walked up and down a lot though, so that wasn't so fun for her.

On the way back on the X1 bus we discovered very useful thing: they've decided to try and be the 8 bus now, so they go all the same places the 8 bus goes in town, and I can get out much closer to home. Most helpful. I did not know and mum did not know so we don't know how long they've been doing that, but I gave up on the X1 because it wouldn't let me out even when I was ill except at that one stop in the town center, so all these extra stops in town are a change for the very better. Win.

So that was pretty good day.
