Have now watched all of Due South
still love it

am wondering how I managed to see the middle bit of part one of 'Call of the Wild', from when Fraser runs up the stairs and finds RayV up to when RayV gets shot, without seeing the start, end or last episode. I don't think I even saw the bit in the hospital. Which would explain why I repressed it, because without that bit it looks a lot like Very Bad Thing. But it wasn't. Just an ouch.

Bits of that ending I loved. Bits of it I've decided to ignore. The closing voiceover-and-clips bit was almost all Wrong. I mean so many of them were so silly it undermined the bits that did fit. Skip that, just have Ben and RayK heading off on their adventure. That fits, that works, and that is perfect.

The other endings, not right. I mean RayV swapping lives with RayK is kind of amusing, but not wrapped up tidy like that. And the ending with the many babies is deeply wrong in so many ways.

But the best ending would have to have both Rays in it. I mean Ben was so happy when they met each other. Knew they'd get along :eyeroll: They're just different parts of his life, different things he needs, and while he loves them both one at a time they'd be more better with both in his life. I know it fits that 'partners' thing, but I don't get monogamy in a sex way, let alone in a work way.

Yeah, I reckon with RayK is also a sex way, but thats not the point. Right there in canon they are splitting people up just to make them be in pairs. Very odd and not right.

So, obviously, Fraser & RayK have their adventure, but they keep looping back to Chicago, where RayV lives and works with Stella and has a nice plausible relationship which probably won't work out long term but hey, nothing is permanent. But they all keep doing work they like and do well and they all keep seeing each other and being together and stuff.
See? Happily enough ever after.

I did like the bit in passing RayV said about how big life changes (going undercover, not being undercover any more) felt like you'd died and you hadn't got to finish stuff. That tied the parts together more.

The ending had all the right parts but went too wacky.
Actually, a lot of the RayK eps went too wacky. Like, trying to be funny. With all the crazy in the world there is no need to actually try.
I love RayK, it isn't him that made the difference, but right now I'm thinking the earlier stories had more that I liked more.

Like, Ben was much more part of the community. Like he made a small town atmosphere by how he treated people.
I don't know, I haven't watched those eps for a while, but it feels like there was a difference there.

But even with any flaws, I love this show. All the characters. All the stuff where maybe people are crazy and maybe they aren't and maybe they look crazy to each other but basically it doesn't so much matter because they just get on with their lives anyway and make them work, together.

So of course Fraser and RayK go off together, but of course they'd come back and connect with all those other people too, because everyone important. Team, community, family, and partnership, all.

Me too :-)

[nods] I really chalk that up to Paul Gross becoming the executive producer in the final two seasons. I think what we were seeing was Gross cutting his teeth at a new job and not having someone around to temper newbie mistakes with taking the humor too far.

My biggest pet peeve was the ongoing joke of I came to Chicago on the trail... -- which is a very funny joke when used sparingly and in the right circumstnaces. *Every* episode, way too much

Good to know and Call of the Wild was much better for that.
