Today I fiddled with rule books until I had designed a castle that works in Pathfinder but resembles the one the D&D 3e Stronghold Builders Guide says you get with the Throne card.

Pathfinder lacks rules for water sources at smaller than Kingdom size.

DnD put a well in the picture, unlabelled, but it's in the same courtyard as the privy.
Call me too modern but that just seems like a Nope.

Pathfinder lets you connect up loos to sewers with a Sewer Access, but only if the settlement does in fact have sewers.

Which is a Kingdom level decision and not cheap.

However the water supply based on a Decanter of Endless Water can share a grid with a Castle and is actually pretty reasonably priced for a tiny starter settlement. Like, only a little more than crafting one of said item yourself, even though the description mentions plurals. Early settlement prices are based on everyone chipping in with a glad will, because new and exciting. So the endless water needs a magic item generating lot to be built, which again is a build points thing, but basically, story me can get very focused until endless clean water happens.

Or, hole in the ground next to the privies.

nope.

Castle building is weird. Because you just go lalala and draw the thing but then you start thinking what a castle really needs and next you know you've got a small village stacked inside stone walls.

... actually I just realised I'm thinking of minimum requirements in comparison to starship design. Granted with less moving, classically speaking, but things an adventure absolutely needs are the same as things an explorer ship absolutely needs.

If this was a real game I'd have a GM to convince and they'd probably go 'nope save up for that bit' a few times and then more of the map is empty, but it's just me, so there's a dojo and briefing room and infirmary and common room and bunks. And double garden because druid.

I have a plan involving a Goodberry plant. Magic plants being a thing apparently. But they're a bit more boring than they should be because you have to grow each one just like crafting a magic item, you never get a self replicating magic, because game balance. Still, goodberry bushes, coolness.

I should try finding an rpg group.
But I went on Facebook today and saw an announce one of the localish games shops is closing down in like a month? Been there a couple times, was thinking I could go again, but no, they're all done.
I also started a conversation about rpgs with facebook friend. But they play DnD 5e, which I don't got any of, having got enthusiastic about Golarion.

Now I have a headache, so I'm probably going to bed early.
Oh well.
