DW BFA The Dark Husband
Sep. 11th, 2021 08:59 pmI had to get the CDs out to listen to this one as I did not buy it from the website so it isnt in the app.
It didnt grab me this time. It was Trying To Be Funny, but the banter didnt seem quite organic to Ace and Hex to me. The plot worked, basically, but a lot of the time was filled with things that didnt exactly draw you in and make you feel the stakes.
Also it seems to think the Doctor, Ace and Hex are a love triangle.
As in the whole plot is set up so Ace nearly marries the Doctor and nearly marries Hex.
And Ace kisses the Doctor.
It's not the idea of them loving each other that's the problem, though married is a different sort of love than I've been reading for them. It's just the ways its trying to be funny and the ways its suddenly high stakes and the ending up kissing seemed to be pulling in different directions to me. Like any time Hex was all wow we're getting married it made it difficult to believe the beer had no alcohol, because there were slightly more important things afoot. Except the more important things were basically explained in a big lump at the end so... I dont know.
And there was a big reversal of married secretly means fight to the death? Which Star Trek did better, obvs. And a section of Remember Who You Are that didnt quite hit the good stuff of the trope for me.
I spent a lot of the time I was listening
making notes for a Pathfinder plot that hasnt quite come together yet
so when I say it didnt grab me that's the level I mean.
Maybe with my full attention I would comprehend it as a work of genius.
... don't think so though.
