I finished watching Farscape :-)
... well, more of a :-( because finished, but as a story it did finish, properly, so :-)
Made me cry. Lots.
Also, my susceptibility to cute baby is still increasing. Baby! Soooo cute!
Also there was funny.
Is very good. Even if it didn't look quite right.

I like how escalating kabooms finally leads to one where the only sane conclusion is some kabooms are too big.
... I don't actually believe in that much sanity prevailing, but, optimist world...

And I love the ending.

"This is your playground."

Why are humans still stuck on this one rock?

So much to fix.

I'm not so sure I like the glowy purple solution though. It looked kind of like "kabooms are bad. Use mind control!"

I know they said they were promoting rationality, but there can be perfectly rational conflicts. It's about value sets and available tools. Given a Dalek value set the destruction of the entire universe makes perfectly logical sense.

Better value set: Make good world for babies. And let them grow up.

Am watching more Farscape.
So much pretty in so little time.
The costume design is gorgeous. So much of it I waaaaant. Even though I know it wouldn't look half as good in different lighting.
The worlds all have their own design aesthetic, sets of patterns and colors. Gorgeous work.

Aeryn Sun is extraordinarily beautiful.
I like her hair best when it's bouncy ponytail. I have been considering this carefully.
You know that ad for the no drug driving campaign where they say they'll make your eyes look big? And their eyes are biiiiiig? I swear her eyes are like that naturally. But not all the time. She has serious face and Big Eyes face. It's cool.

The diversity in the crew is excellent. Half women, lots of different colors, and at least one character with a disability (Rygel needs a chair and has limited tool use), plus what you might call an assortment of mental health differences. And it all adds to the story. More variety, more possibilities. Why is this not obvious to more writers?

Am rewatching Farscape. I really love their costume design. Consistently new and sexy.
... have also been watching Enterprise. Which, well, isn't. *sigh*
(Also, today there was an episode with a time machine that was bigger on the inside. Given how widely DW steals stuff from any source that catches the eye one can hardly complain, yet somehow I was miffed.)

Maldus is currently doing Space Elizabethan. I don't know what it is about ruffs that works so well. The big hats and floofy sleeves of other eras don't seem to translate half as nicely. Could just be what we're used to. But ruffs and new fabrics? Works.

... bird-on-his-head bothers me because it so nearly works. I mean, lots of black and scary and interesting, and then, a bird. *facepalm*

Have now watched the first disc of Peacekeeper Wars.

It looks wrong.
Not a disc problem, I mean the makeup and look of the show.
Mostly the makeup.

It is very distracting, and some characters need nametags they look so different.

I like Sikozu's new punky look. I liked the weird hair twizzles she had before too, possibly better. But I like the Peacekeeper colors outfit a lot.

As to the plot... there's a heck of a lot of it. Like, plot plot plotplotplot + plot*plot. Relationship stuff and anything that isn't urgently plot is just squished to mostly absent. Slightly strange.

Also I'm not quite convinced, so far. Like, they're fitting so much plot in they aren't quite selling it, at least not to me. Stuff keeps on happening so quickly its too convenient. Even things going wrong a lot doesn't quite shake the feeling. It just goes too fast for me to believe it, somehow. Odd.

I'm getting the urge to fix it. Like, go to fanfic and stretch it back out to about a season long again. I feel like its been stripped down to practically skeletal and I want to build it up rich and pretty like it should be.

On the up side, lookit! Everybody! All doing things! Yaays!

One hour before Doctor Who. More than one hour on the second disc. Shall be waiting then.

Probably til tomorrow, because when I think about it I'm very sleepy tired.

I just finished watching Farscape season 4

have now seen all of it
previously I had missed maybe as much as 1/2 of it, mostly every other episode. don't know why.

I love the bit with the flowers and the bomb.

I was everso tempted to stop the last episode at 40:56
when everything was shiny

See this is the *other* reason it took me so long to watch Farscape
because 'Bad Timing' *really* was

Now I have Peacekeeper Wars to watch
but they won't all fit in before Doctor Who
beccaelizabeth: my Watcher tattoo in blue, plus Be in red Buffy style font (Default)
am watching Farscape

it is quite confusing when "previously on Farscape" includes bits that were not, in fact, previously on Farscape

found a site that says they were put there to tell people about the things

but... if it isn't previously, then those bits are traditionally known as, like, episode, even if they are tiny cliplikes

Now there is shiny sunlight coming in through windows (and curtains, closed, but thin enough for light) then all the places I doodled on my body with highlighter pen while revising are, like, glowy

oops.

Have finished watching season 3

Farscape just keeps getting bigger

Farscape is good. Lots of layers and stuff. Lots of themes and issues and all.

Only one season and the after that thing left to watch.

All except the first discs of season 4 are still wrapped. When it got cancelled I decided if I hadn't watched them all it wasn't actually over. So now I feel like I should slow down and ration whats left...
beccaelizabeth: my Watcher tattoo in blue, plus Be in red Buffy style font (Default)
been watching Farscape
got two discs out of order :grr:
wasn't reading carefully enough when I woke up :eyeroll:

so, I stopped in the middle of a two parter
and just now watched the one with Talyn and the mist

John & Aeryn *pretty*
*happy sigh*

And I still like the clothes on this show. A lot.

Farscape rather strongly depends on people watching with a lot of attention. I mean, it isn't just that there's a lot of history, its that there are characters that are the same characters but not actually the same just at the moment. There are, what, 4 different of John? The one that got real old, the neural clone, and the twinned two. Remembering what each of them remembers takes rather more concentration than television tends to demand.

Fun!

eta:
having watched the other half of the two parter
:-(

is the trouble with having many
and only 'needing' one

Am up to the one with the planet full of lawyers and Blue going nuts.
It entirely lacks subtlety and is very, very boring.
So I have been letting it play while I read, and might just skip it entirely.

Chiana is nicely shaped.
Is she meant to be a teenager?
Age signals on grey people all peculiar looking.

Am up to "The Way we Weren't"
which gives Aeryn some more context and reasons
so it wasn't just John and his magic words
they were keywords to her already
yaays.

The one problem with their relationship is it reads a bit like where the noble white man goes in and civilizes the violent savage, or maybe a bit of liberal white guy teaches freed slaves not to hate. I like her kick ass self. I also like compassion and empathy and all that. The bit that bugs is when Crichton is set in the middle of how and why, like its all about him.

I'm kind of in a cranky mood generally at the moment. Don't know how much is opinion and how much is mood.

Finished the season.
Now I see why it felt like they'd wrapped all the loose ends 2 eps early - they took the eps to set up the next season. Which is also why I didn't remember it as the season finale, I've smooshed it on to the beginning of the next bit.
Didn't like the pacing in the last episode. Too much emo, not enough boom. But when there was boom? "John Crichton was here." Heh. *happy evil grin*

Is a very good thing I have the next season right here. Cliffhangers suck.

So far, I'm not as in love with it as I could be. I mean its definitely watchable, but it isn't like later when I love them all to bits. I think because John isn't quite nuts enough yet. This plan was good, but the insane/cool style got kind of swallowed in the bits with all that sad music on it. It always gets more fun when it gets more bizarre.

"Rhapsody in Blue"

unity =/= sex, right? Because she says so. Except for he keeps saying the opposite.

F/F unity => badness
M/F unity => redemption

I really try not to read too much into this stuff, but...

*sigh*

also
the other females have hair
huh
beccaelizabeth: my Watcher tattoo in blue, plus Be in red Buffy style font (Default)
Finished watching Farscape episode "The Flax".
Fun because finally an alien female with no breasts.
I mean, breasts are these strange pretty much non functional lumps that humans have and nothing else bothers with, and yet, we head out into the galaxy? Breasts everywhere! Usually large. And symmetrical. When was the last time you saw an asymmetric alien? Okay, DNA mad scientist, but that was meant to look messed up.
And, okay, a lot of the time there's just a presumption that no breasts = male, which was made funny in this ep, but really, what's with all the lumpy bits? Or the lack of lumps in other places. When was the last time aliens had sexy udders? Not that I personally can imagine finding udders sexy, but that isn't the point.
There's all sorts seen in the insectoid aliens or whatever, but the humans in makeup tend to stick with 2 sexes with visible lumps. Silly.

Presumption of heterosexuality, also silly. I mean, the way they talk about the kissing, they pick opposite sex crewmates as the other people it could happen with. Is space! She couldn't assume it could happen with guys? Different culture! I mean any culture that has to control population, it would make sense to encourage activity that doesn't lead to procreation. And they live in big ships, but not all that big, so population control is an issue.

Also also, while having a male looking female character is fun, the reactions of the rest of the crew to her is actually not very fun at all. I mean the funny is in the oops, so there has to be an oops, but then they are mean. Surely it should be oops my bad? Not oops wandering off all ack face.

Also also also, the other characters of her species refer to her as him once, I think. If so, somebodys oops.

Am rewatching Farscape from the start.
My unwatched DVDs pile is down to seaQuest, Sharpe, half a dozen movies I've mostly seen before, and some Farscape. So, Farscape it is.

I like how he starts out the Zeppo. Out of his depth. Others think he is a prat. I like how he isn't hte only one with a heart, or even the one that excels. He's just this guy, and totally ignorant of their world, however he would excel back here.

I also love the pop culture references. Green Lantern rings and willpower. Which John Wayne films were bad. Fun.

Also, I know it all gets better. Which, since it already doesn't suck, is just cool.

Blakes 7, Farscape, Firefly... any more space shows in that family?

Doctor Who and Stargate have similarities. Stargate effectively time travels (though usually without the paradox) by stepping through into places modelled on ancient civilizations, plus they get to play with aliens whenever they want too, and its easier to build up big bads and arcs if they don't have to time travel to follow you.

I seem to have run out of cakelikes already. No fair. Leave out one apple pie, run out of one course half way between shoppings.

(Plus the thing where I eat too much.)

*wanders off to second disc*

The Farscape DVDs I've got so far don't seem to have subtitles. Which is a pain in the neck, because I can't find a set of sound settings that make the background music and sounds stay in the background.

Am wondering if newer sets have subtitles. Am further wondering if this is sufficient reason to spend a bunch of money. I guess the sets I have would still sell.
