I own only 88 movies. I have 3 bookcases full of DVDs, but only 88 of them are films. Many were only bought from the supermarket for like £3 for 3 films. Quite a few I've only ever watched once. It's a bit ridiculous really.

If I completely stop buying new things and just start watching my DVDs over from the start I think it'll take me years. So why do I buy any new DVDs? Er, actually, lately, they're not even new, they're the DVD versions of Doctor Who I had on video already... or just sometimes the latest new and improved special editions of DVDs I had on DVD already...

I should just stop spending money. In general. Except on things that are interesting and social like conventions. Or on food.

I watched that 'greatest moments of Doctor Who' thing or whatever they were calling it
Usually a 'greatest' show made by the same people as make the show is a we-love-us fest and no so interesting, but since there's so much Doctor Who it had potential to be more than that, a fanboys love the Doctor thing instead. But no. It's all New series clips, all 9 and 10, and a total we-love-us thing. Boring.
Except I think DT said exactly the opposite of what he meant. 'always puts himself first' and 'always puts himself in danger first' are opposites, yesno?
Also interesting, he says 'we' to mean humans not Doctors :)

I am in such a sulk today. My mum phoned this morning to see if I was awake and I think I phoned her back to point out the dumb in this plan but I hadn't got my eyes open yet so I'm not quite sure I communicated that. Or indeed anything coherent.
... every day this week. And every day this week when I actually do wake up I phone her back and she isn't there. Until today, when I phoned her back while asleep, which didn't work so good.

So then I listened to Doctor Who. 7th Doctor, Ace and Hex, The Magic Mousetrap. Except most of the time they're pretending not to be them, which is less fun. Was a good solution though. Proper twisty.

After that I watched Enterprise. It was a bit A Team. Except the plan was kind of stupid. 'let's move the whole camp 50 meters away from the kabooms! oh noes, now we have to move the klingons 50 meters to get them to the kabooms! how unexpected!' If they'd moved the camp in a different direction the klingons would have had to cross the kabooms to get to the gullies they were hiding in. I only do tabletop gaming and the plan was made of stupid from where I was standing.
Also, it only works on Klingons because they get stuck in and try and go hand to hand. If they were dealing with more ruthless, colder, spaceship having aliens, the aliens could always go up and drop a rock on the annoying ones. Granted, they'd lose that supplier, but they could make sure all their other suppliers would hear what they'd done.

... I'm far too good at thinking like an evil overlord...

I also tried to finish reading the book I've had out for a whole bunch of months about how scientists are portrayed in literature. I had a good couple pages notes of insight into the basic structure of base under seige story sparked by a line they said about Frankenstein. I only read two pages of book, but it was interesting and helpful. So now I'm kind of stuck because it keeps progressing at that speed, and then there's a bunch of stuff the book has said several ways already, and then I feel like giving up on it, and then I hit another line of useful. Meh. I should just send it back and read the technophobia book instead.

So now my wrist hurts, I'm still in a sulk for little reason, and ... I have no and. I shall have to think of and before I can do whatever I do next. I have no next.

I'm not really shouty tantrum today but some days I just like the icon.

The more stuff ends up on Wiki, the harder it is to find something that isn't Wiki. Especially since so many other pages just straight up copy them. And now I'm finding that mailing lists that used to forward strange and unusual news stories or paranormal research are forwarding whole pages from Wikipedia instead, and none of it new or particularly well referenced.

I think I'm going to stop reading Fortean Times anyway. There's weirdness in the world, but it falls into recogniseable patterns, even if they're not explainable patterns. After a while reading more fo the same just stops being amusing.

... I have grumpy. *sigh*

We went to the library, had a look at the seats and the coffee machine and all, and made a poster for the writing group.

Friday starting at 6pm
library closes at 8pm
F&SF writing group

I think it was a rubbish poster. I got distracted by the pretty swirly thingies and didn't really come up with much by way of text. Also the text needed to be bigger. But. We printed it out (50p per sheet! But very nice printing.) And the library will make more of it and put it up in useful places. And then people will email me or phone friend who volunteered their phone number. And then when we have more than one writer we will go make a writing group.

... it would probably help if I had a clue what to do in a writing group.

But the other groups were all Full, so the only way to go is to make one. So we did.

... I am brave and mighty and not at all intimidated at showing actual 3D people words I just made... or indeed sharing a building with actual 3D people...

Dereham is really dead at 8pm on a Friday night. Also it smells. That's not helpful. But the big gap that used to be Woolworths has become Poundland. Which is better than a gap. Yet I can't help feel that our town center, now consisting of multiple fast food outlets, a crappy cinema, a betting shop, Poundland, Boots and some charity shops, says a certain something about our town, and that something is not 'classy'. Oh well.

I want to move to Norwich. Starting a writing group and wanting to move to Norwich might not look like they fit, but nobody replies when I tries to move to Norwich, so I can't go. *sulk*
